Catastrophic rains: Buildings collapsed, many missing PHOTO

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the local administration, State Disaster Response Force and police teams immediately reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue operations, reports the Indian Express.

So far, rescue teams have rescued two women and one child, who were trapped under the rubble, and around 200 residents have been evacuated to safe places.

The collapse of buildings in Chamoli came two days after 23 people were killed in landslides and overflowing rivers in Dehradun and nearby districts of Uttarakhand.

Roads in that part of Uttarakhand have been blocked by floods and landslides, hampering rescue efforts.
