Berlin sends a clear message to Moscow: The eastern border is closing
Germany will increase its commitment to NATO's eastern border in response to the intrusion of Russian drones into Poland, a government spokesman in Berlin said today.
"In addition to existing commitments in the Baltic countries and Poland, the government will also expand air surveillance over Poland," said the spokesman, according to Reuters.
As he says, Berlin will also intensify its support for Ukraine and work within the EU for the rapid adoption of the 19th package of sanctions against Russia.
On Wednesday, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said that the illegal entry of Russian drones into Polish airspace during the attack on Ukraine shows that Moscow is ready to escalate the conflict, which is why NATO must be united and a response must follow.
Polish authorities announced yesterday that they shot down several Russian drones that invaded Polish airspace. European officials stated that it was a deliberate Russian incursion.
