Six killed in Bangkok market after gunman opens fire VIDEO

According to preliminary information, the attacker seriously wounded at least three security personnel with firearms. At least six people were killed, the police confirmed.

The attack was carried out by a 61-year-old former security guard who, according to current information, shot his former colleagues and then committed suicide.

According to witness descriptions and videos circulating on social media, the attacker was wearing camouflage shorts, a black T-shirt, a white cap and a backpack hanging over his chest. He was seen walking through the market before opening fire.

A large number of police forces are on the scene. Shoppers and passers-by were ordered to leave the area immediately while security services secured the scene of the attack.

The motive for the attack is not yet known, and the police urge citizens to remain calm and not to share unverified information while the investigation is underway.

"Police are investigating the motive. For now, it is a mass shooting," Worapat Sukthai, deputy police chief of Bangkok's Bang Sue district, where the incident occurred, told AFP.
