An earthquake measuring 5.8 degrees on the Richter scale hit the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, namely the city of Marmaris, the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) announced last night.
A 14-year-old girl died due to panic, and 69 people were injured in the earthquake in Turkey.
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that 14-year-old Afranur Gunlu, who suffered a panic attack and was taken to the hospital, has died.
The announcement states that the epicenter of the earthquake was in the Mediterranean Sea at a depth of 67.91 kilometers and that it occurred at 02:17 a.m., and that it was felt in neighboring regions, including the Greek island of Rhodes, Turkish television station NTV reported.
People jumped out of the windows in panic
The governor of Marmaris, Idris Akbiyik, said that people were mostly injured when they jumped from windows or balconies in panic, but that there were no immediate reports of any major damage.
