He said that there are no negative circumstances that would affect the general life circumstances in energy and infrastructure, natural gas supply, drinking water and sewage infrastructure, Turkish CNN reports.

He added that an abandoned building collapsed in Istanbul's Fatih district, but that there were no fatalities or injuries in that incident, stressing that the work of the emergency services units on the ground continues.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that all relevant units in Turkey were on alert after a series of earthquakes hit the Istanbul area, the strongest of which was 6.2 on the Richter scale.

"We are following the process very carefully. For now, there seems to be no problem," Erdogan said.

The tremors were also felt in the surrounding provinces, as well as in Ankara. The Ministry of Transport stated that after the first inspections on highways, airports, trains and subways, no damage was found.

Earlier, an earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale hit the Istanbul region in Turkey, reports the European-Mediterranean Seismological Institute.

According to reports, the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 12 kilometers, in the Sea of ​​Marmara, west of the Bosphorus. According to preliminary reports, buildings were shaking in Istanbul, and citizens ran into the streets.
