The match, played in front of around 80,000 spectators, was preceded by a ceremonial opening, with the main star, as usual, being Shakira.

The hosts secured the opening victory thanks to goals from Quiñones in the 9th minute and Jiménez in the 67th minute of the match.

Their task was made easier due to red cards shown to Sithole in the 49th minute and Zwane in the 84th minute. Unfortunately for Mexico, Montes also received an unnecessary red card in second-half stoppage time.

In the other Group A match, South Korea national football team will face Czech Republic national football team on Friday at 04:00.

The Mexico national football team entered the match better, creating the first chance through Jiménez in the fifth minute, but Williams made an excellent intervention.

It did not take long for the hosts to take the lead. The visitors were careless, Lira “stole” the ball, it reached Quiñones, who in the ninth minute beat Williams through his legs.

The South Africans were unable to seriously threaten the goal defended by Rangel, and almost every attack ended without a result.

Just before halftime, Mexico had another good opportunity, but Quiñones was denied by the post for his second goal.

The visitors were reduced to ten men in the 50th minute when Sithole, as the last defender, brought down Jiménez from behind.

The Mexico national football team were unable to fully capitalize on their numerical advantage until the 67th minute. Alvarado delivered an excellent cross, and Jiménez simply “bowed” and headed the ball into the net.

In the 84th minute, after a VAR review, Zwane received a direct red card for striking an opponent in the face, leaving no doubt about Mexico’s victory. For that reason, the straight red card shown to Montes in stoppage time was considered completely unnecessary.

Mexico will face South Korea national football team in the second round, while South Africa’s opponents will be the Czech Republic national football team.
