Hungarians furious after loss to Serbia: "A shame for water polo, a circus!"

That triumph sent the “Dolphins” to the semifinals, one round before the end, while the Hungarians will have to face Spain for a place among the top four teams.

The losing team is always more dissatisfied, but this time our northern neighbors sharply criticized the referees, led by Ádám Nagy.

He unequivocally accused the referees of directly influencing the final outcome and called them a disgrace to the sport.

“The Serbian team is good, but tonight they had two ‘extra players,’ which is a shame that such things can happen in today’s water polo. It’s a disgrace that a team can continue to play this way, with such penalty decisions,” Ádám Nagy told Hungarian media and continued:

“They were constantly getting man-up situations, we were excluded, they were awarded penalties — it was a circus. The Serbian team is good, full of Olympic champions, players with huge experience who know how to play and win at home. We didn’t have many chances in this match, and in the end we made a few mistakes, didn’t choose the best options.”

Nagy emphasized that, despite everything with the refereeing, Hungary could have won in the Belgrade Arena.

“We absolutely felt during the match that we could turn the result around, if only we had been a little more precise in the last three minutes. What we can learn from this match, ahead of the duel with Spain, is that we can come back from any situation. We almost erased a five-goal deficit in just one quarter, which shows our strength, speed, and what we can achieve when we play as a team, one for another,” Nagy stressed.
