Snow is falling in Serbia PHOTO/VIDEO
After a long and hot summer, snow is falling on Mount Golija, in the municipality of Ivanjica.
While significantly higher temperatures are still prevailing in the lower-lying areas of Serbia, an early winter spell surprised residents of mountain villages just before the end of September.
According to residents of Golija, the snowfall was extremely heavy at one point, although a snow cover has not yet formed.
“It’s snowing quite heavily and densely, but the flakes melt as soon as they hit the ground because the soil is still warm. We mountain residents are used to long, harsh and cold winters, but snow in September always attracts attention and surprises us,” residents of the villages on Golija told the RINA news agency.
Among older residents of the area, it is often recalled that over the decades, snow has been recorded on this mountain in almost every month of the year, except July.
In addition to Golija, the first snowflakes were also recorded on Kopaonik, where temperatures dropped to around zero degrees Celsius, accompanied by strong northerly winds, immediately slowing traffic in the mountain resorts.
