The latest number of believers who have paid homage to the Holy Virgin Mary's Belt has been released VIDEO
More than half a million believers have paid homage to the Belt of the Holy Mother of God, which was exhibited in the Temple of Saint Sava in Vračar, from May 20 until today, June 2, the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) announced.
“Given the significant interest of the media from Serbia, neighboring countries, and abroad regarding the number of believers who have paid homage to the Holy Belt of the Most Holy Mother of God, we are obliged to report that from May 20 at 8:00 p.m. until today, June 2 at 8:00 p.m., a total of 576,793 believers passed through the Temple of Saint Sava in Vračar, having paid homage to the Holy Belt of the Most Holy Mother of God,” the Information Service of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) stated.
As stated, what Serbian Patriarch Porfirije emphasizes on this occasion is that more important than the number of believers is the fact that the people are reaffirming their centuries-old devotion to the Svetosavian and Saint Lazar’s, or Kosovo Covenant, which is nothing other than the fulfillment of the New Testament in the lives of Orthodox Serbs.
Let us recall that on the fourteenth day since the arrival of the Holy Belt of the Most Holy Mother of God in Serbia, the longest queue of believers so far has formed, all waiting to pay their respects.
The line starts from the direction of Slavija, descends through Vračar streets to Autokomanda, and then goes uphill again toward the Temple of Saint Sava through Karadjordjev Park, TV Hram reports.
Serbian Patriarch Porfirije today, on Whit Tuesday, after the liturgy, visited and blessed the believers gathered in front of the Temple of Saint Sava, who are waiting in a kilometre-long line, in prayer and silence, patiently waiting to pay homage to the Belt of the Most Holy Mother of God, which is exhibited in the Temple of Saint Sava. He told them that one should pray unceasingly and that the Lord, through the prayers of the Most Holy Mother of God and His love, will reveal spiritual goodness and treasures that we cannot even imagine exist.
The Holy Belt of the Most Holy Mother of God will remain in the Cathedral Temple of Saint Sava until Saturday, June 6, when, according to the statement, after the Divine Liturgy led by Patriarch Porfirije, it will be ceremoniously sent off to the holy and great Vatopedi Monastery on Mount Athos.
