New details emerge about the horrific fire in Zagreb: "Open flames burst through the window" VIDEO
The Vjesnik skyscraper on Slavonska Avenue in Zagreb was damaged in a fire during the night.
At the time the fire broke out, initial reports indicate that there was no one inside the building.
According to firefighters, there was only a single report from a citizen. Index spoke with a young man named Marin, who lives near the Vjesnik building and was the one who called the firefighters.
“I looked through my window and saw something orange on one of the windows of Vjesnik. I wasn’t sure what it was, whether someone had turned on an orange-colored light. However, as I kept staring, I saw open flames coming out of the window. I called the firefighters; I think it was at 23:01. I told them where the fire was, it seemed to be on the 15th floor. Within a few minutes, five fire trucks arrived, and soon after, more came,” Marin told Index.
This morning, the Vjesnik building looks like this
“Soon they blocked Savska Street. I saw them climbing up to the 15th floor and putting out the fire. Inside Vjesnik it was dark, so the firefighters were clearly visible. However, then the roof caught fire. After that was extinguished, it seemed like Vjesnik was out, but then a few floors below the top, the fire started again. Until around 1 a.m., it didn’t look dramatic, but then it spread and engulfed the entire building,” Marin said.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, there are no casualties, and the extent of the damage has not yet been assessed.
