Minister of Education in the technical mandate, Slavica Djukić Dejanović, stated today that 2.4 percent of primary and secondary schools in Serbia are not working, and that there are no classes in only two primary schools. Of those two, one, as she said, plans to start working tomorrow, and stated that the junior high school graduation will most likely be held at the end of June, and that the test exam in mathematics will be held on April 25.

Djukić Dejanović told TV Prva that in 76.7 percent of schools, classes last 45 minutes, while in other schools that are open, classes last 30 minutes, and stated that out of nearly 60,000 teachers in Serbia, about 1,000 of them do not work.

"It is a minority, but it greatly compromises the work process, because children come to school, have one lesson, and then miss the next one, so the directors and school administrations should manage to make the children start with compensation," said Djukić Dejanović.

She stated that the schools that lost a smaller number of working days have already made up for it, some in the form of pre-classes or the sixth, seventh and eighth classes, while some schools work on Saturdays.

"It all depends on the age of the students, on the capacity of the schools in terms of personnel and space, so it is a great pleasure that only two elementary schools are not working, one of which plans to start working tomorrow," said the minister.

She added that 49 secondary schools in Serbia are not working and that they are mostly high schools.

Compensation of classes

Speaking about the teaching compensation plan, Djukić Dejanović said that each school created its own compensation program within its autonomy and that the goal is to do everything so that the next school year is not damaged, that is, it is damaged as little as possible in terms of the level of knowledge outcomes.

She added that the associates of the Ministry of Education are involved in compensation programs, that they visit schools and carry out inspections, as well as that they are available to schools to provide them with assistance.

Junior high school graduation

Djukić Dejanović said that a junior high school graduation, that is, the final exam in primary schools, will be held, but that the exact date has not yet been determined.

"We will try to have it at the end of June, and the trial exam in mathematics will be on April 25," said Djukic Dejanovic.
