The government of North Macedonia has declared a state of emergency
The government of North Macedonia has adopted a decision to introduce a state of emergency in electricity supply across the entire country, after power plants faced difficulties in procuring fuel oil due to protests in Greece.
The decision, which will come into effect within a maximum of seven days, was adopted on Tuesday at the proposal of the Board for Coordination and Management of the Crisis Management System. The proposal was prepared based on the inability to procure fuel oil necessary for electricity production, Telma agency reports.
Following the adoption of this decision, the Electricity Distribution of North Macedonia (ESM) will be able to use resources from state reserves free of charge.
Previously, state power plants reported difficulties in obtaining fuel oil due to protests in Greece. Fuel oil is used in small quantities for electricity production, and they also claimed that coal deliveries were delayed.
According to the Ministry of Energy of North Macedonia, state reserves hold over 10,000 tons of fuel oil.
