Director of Jovina Gymnasium in Novi Sad arrested

He was arrested on reasonable suspicion of committing four criminal offenses of failure to comply with a court ruling.

“During the investigative actions carried out so far, the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad transferred territorial jurisdiction from the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad to the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Bačka Palanka,” the statement said.

The statement added that R.S., in his capacity as a responsible official, is suspected of refusing to comply with final court rulings concerning four teachers at the aforementioned gymnasium, thereby preventing them from performing their duties and teaching classes without obstruction.

“Following the lifting of their suspensions by the competent court, he was ordered to immediately and without delay allow the teachers to resume their professional duties, but he refused to do so,” the statement said.

R.S. has been placed in custody for up to 48 hours, during which time he will be brought before and questioned by the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Bačka Palanka, in accordance with the law.
