“The situation is very bad. He is on his deathbed,” said Darko Mladić in an interview for Banja Luka-based ATV.
He recalled that a doctor in The Hague had, in a way, confirmed that his father is dying.
“Not explicitly, because they refuse to take a clear position and distance themselves, but it is clear to everyone that he is dying there, and in that sense he has met the criteria the judge requested last summer in order to grant his release”, Mladić said.
He said that the general will be examined by Serbian doctors tomorrow, and that his mother, the general’s wife, will come to The Hague on Thursday.
“I was there yesterday for two hours. He could no longer endure it. Today they gave me one hour because of other medical obligations. Tomorrow, doctors from Belgrade will come to examine him, I will visit after them, and on Thursday and Friday my mother will be there, since it is their 60th wedding anniversary on Friday”, Darko Mladić said, adding:
“After I was told yesterday that he can no longer properly eat or drink water, I asked why he is not receiving intravenous fluids, but I did not get a clear answer. I hope the doctors will respond to that. Our goal at this moment is for him to be released, because if we cannot save him, at least to extend his life a little, and we will see what the judge decides. After the doctors’ examination, we will submit a formal request, because we did not want to file a request without expert assessment, but based on what we received from The Hague, it is clear that he is in the terminal phase,” said Darko Mladić.
