"Albin Kurti crossed the red line"
An official of the US State Department said that the prime minister of the temporary Pristina institutions in the technical mandate, Albin Kurti, "crossed the red line" by trying to prevent the participation of the Serb List in the local elections in Kosovo.
An unnamed official told Pristina's Koha that there were actions in the north of Kosovo and Metohija that Washington considers destabilizing, but that the attempt to prevent Serbs from electing their representatives is particularly worrying.
He added that "a series of talks with Kurti privately and diplomatically" were conducted in connection with those actions, as, as he said, the US always does "in connection with disturbing actions."
"We were also clear that there would be consequences if this continued. And at some point we felt that we could not wait any longer and that we had to protect our interests," he said.
The U.S. Embassy in Pristina announced today that the United States has indefinitely suspended a planned strategic dialogue with Pristina due to, as stated, concerns over the actions of the interim government that have increased tensions and instability, limiting Washington's ability to work productively with Pristina on shared priorities.
