This meeting is confirmation of the deep mutual respect and friendship that connects our two countries.

Serbia and Japan share common values - a commitment to peace, stability and prosperity, and a strong desire to build a future based on cooperation and understanding.

It is a great privilege for Serbia to have the opportunity to strengthen ties with one of the world's most developed and respected nations, and especially that it is done through such a significant meeting at the highest level.

This meeting in Tokyo opens a new chapter in bilateral relations and sends a clear message that Serbia and Japan are looking toward the future together", Vucic wrote in an Instagram post.

The reception ceremony of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić with Emperor Naruhito was arranged in the Imperial Palace in Tokyo today. This is their first official meeting, and President Vučić will later meet with Prime Minister of Japan Shigeru Ishiba.

The delegation with President Vučić also includes Minister of Internal and Foreign Trade Jagoda Lazarevic, Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation Bela Balint and Director of the Office for IT and e-Government Mihailo Jovanović.

In the presence of President Vučić, three documents will be signed today - a joint statement on the achievement of an agreement in principle between Serbia and Japan on the promotion and protection of investments, a Memorandum on cooperation between the Ministry of Science, Technological Development of Serbia and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding regarding cooperation in the field of advanced ICT technologies in Serbia between the Office for IT and eGov of the Republic of Serbia and the company NTT DATA.

President Vučić will end his visit to Japan by participating in the Presentation of Serbia's Investment Potential, which will be attended by representatives of large Japanese companies. Japan, one of the four leading economies in the world, has very good economic cooperation with Serbia. In the period January-June 2025, Serbia's total foreign trade exchange in goods with Japan amounted to 174.1 million dollars.

According to the data of the Republic Institute of Statistics, the total export of goods to Japan amounted to 42.1 million dollars, and in the same period, 132 million dollars of goods were imported and the coverage of imports by exports was 31.9 percent. In the period January-December 2024, the total foreign trade exchange in goods with Japan amounted to 331.7 million dollars.

According to the data of the Agency for Business Registers, 17 active business entities whose majority owners are Japanese citizens, i.e. legal entities registered in Japan, are registered on the territory of Serbia.

In addition to the company Japan Tobacco International (JTI), which has been present on the Serbian market for many years, as well as other significant companies such as Panasonic Electric Works, Asahi Food and Healthcare, Mitsui Co, Mitsubishi corp, Itochu and others, companies such as Nidec, Toyo Tires, Yazaki, Mayekawa, JFE Shoji and others have also started their operations in Serbia. Japanese partners implemented some of the important projects in the country, such as the construction of flue gas desulphurization plants in the Nikola Tesla A and Nikola Tesla B thermal power plants with the participation of the Mitsubishi Hitachi Power System company.

This is President Vučić's first working visit to Japan, and yesterday the President was in Osaka, where he attended the official ceremony of presenting the National Day of Serbia at the EXPO exhibition in that city. President Vučić will end his visit to Japan on Wednesday, September 17.
