As part of the ongoing fight against corruption and financial crime, members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia, the Criminal Police Directorate, and the Anti-Corruption Department, acting on orders from the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Offices in Niš, Kraljevo, and Novi Sad — specifically the Special Anti-Corruption Departments arrested a total of 26 people this morning.

According to available information, the arrests followed suspicions that the individuals committed a number of criminal offenses prosecuted ex officio, including money laundering, tax fraud related to VAT, abuse of position by a responsible person, abuse of office, fraud in business operations, embezzlement in business operations, concealment, and document forgery.

By committing these criminal offenses, the suspects allegedly obtained unlawful financial gain totaling 197 million dinars and caused damage amounting to 200 million dinars to the budget of the Serbia and to legal entities.

All those arrested will be handed over to the competent prosecutors for questioning along with criminal charges. Police officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Criminal Police Directorate — Anti-Corruption Department — will continue further efforts to combat corruption across the Republic of Serbia.
