Suspect arrested for allegedly damaging Novi Sad City Budget by 2.5 million dinars

In cooperation with the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad and the Criminal Police Directorate’s Anti-Corruption Department, B.C. has been arrested on suspicion of committing the ongoing criminal offense of abuse of office by a responsible person.

B. C. has been charged with allegedly abusing his position as the representative of the citizens' association Društvo i razvoj ("Society and Development"), causing financial damage to the Novi Sad city budget in the amount of 2,530,000 dinars.

According to the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad, B. C. is suspected of committing a prolonged criminal offense of abuse of office by a responsible person.

It is alleged that the association Društvo i razvoj, where B. C. served as the responsible representative, was awarded funds from the City of Novi Sad for the implementation of five projects totaling 2,530,000 dinars.

The activities for these projects were never carried out, and the suspect reportedly submitted false reports to the funding authorities, describing activities such as workshops, lectures, and other events that never took place.

As a result, the City of Novi Sad suffered financial damage of 2,530,000 dinars.

The suspect has been detained for up to 48 hours, during which time he will be questioned by the prosecutor’s office.
