Train from Belgrade to Prague again? Talks begin on a new rail route
Minister of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijević met today with Czech Ambassador Jan Bondy to discuss possibilities for enhancing bilateral cooperation, with a particular focus on the development of railway infrastructure.
A key topic was also the possibility of reestablishing a direct passenger rail line between Belgrade and Prague, the Ministry stated.
“The completion of the Belgrade–Budapest high-speed railway, along with the already established freight and expected passenger traffic, represents a strong boost to regional connectivity and further railway development. This opens the possibility of reintroducing a direct Belgrade–Prague passenger line, with potential stops in Bratislava and connections to Vienna,” Sofronijević said.
She also noted that relations between Serbia and the Czech Republic are open and friendly, forming a strong basis for further strengthening comprehensive partnership ties in the interest of our citizens and economy.
“Through joint efforts, we can achieve significant results,” Sofronijević added.
Cooperation with Czech companies
Sofronijević and Ambassador Bondy also discussed the participation of Czech companies in current and future projects in Serbia, with particular emphasis on the importance of exchanging knowledge, expertise, and best practices between the institutions of the two countries, aiming to continuously improve institutional and economic cooperation.
