This would accelerate administrative processes and construction, with the system expected to be operational by 2027 or 2028, Hungarian media reported last night.

The plans of the Hungarian government, according to the portal Ungarn Hoyte, also involve better coordination of the energy markets of Hungary, Serbia, and Slovakia to achieve more stable market conditions.

Citing the Hungarian economic newspaper Vilagazdaság, they note that the Hungarian government aims for the system to be fully operational by 2027 or 2028, establishing a new foundation for oil supply in the region.

Ungarn Hoyte also reports that the Hungarian government has repeatedly emphasized that energy supply in Central Europe is vulnerable, particularly for landlocked countries, and that one of the main objectives of the Hungary–Serbia oil pipeline is to create an alternative route and reduce unilateral dependency.

According to their assessment, the Hungarian government views this pipeline as a strategic project that could play a key role in reducing the country’s energy dependence.

The Hungarian government website states that the draft regulation is currently in a public consultation process, which will last until March 28 at the latest.
