It thus surpassed nuclear energy by 21.6 percent, wind energy by 15.8 percent, hydropower by 14.1 percent and natural gas by 13.8 percent, Eurostat announced.

In the second quarter of 2025, renewable energy sources accounted for 54 percent of net electricity production in the European Union, which is an increase compared to 52.7 percent from the same period in 2024.

Only solar energy had a share of 19.9 percent in the energy mix.

Denmark had the largest share of renewable sources in electricity production in the second quarter of 2025 with 94.7 percent, followed by Latvia 93.4 percent, Austria 91.8 percent, Croatia 89.5 percent and Portugal 85.6 percent.

In contrast, the lowest shares of renewable sources were recorded in Slovakia at 19.9 percent, in Malta at 21.2 percent and in the Czech Republic at 22.1 percent.

Compared to last year, 15 member states saw an increase in the share of renewable sources in electricity production, and the biggest jump was in Luxembourg (13.5 percent) and Belgium (9.1 percent). thanks to the growth of solar production.

The majority of electricity produced from renewable sources in the second quarter of 2025 comes from solar energy 36.8 percent, wind energy 29.5 percent and hydropower 26 percent, according to Eurostat.
