Đinđić assassination verdicts final

The final verdict was given in Belgrade to Milorad Ulemek and Zvezdan Jovanovic, who were sentenced to 40 years in prison for the assassination of Zoran Djindjic. The Supreme Court has rejected all of the defense’s appeals. Jovanovic and Ulemek, aka Legija, were both members of the now disbanded Special Operations Unit (JSO), accused of colluding with the Zemun-based crime group. The Supreme Court confirmed on December 28, 2009 the final verdicts for all Zemun Clan members on trial except for Sretko Kalinic, whose sentence was decreased from 35 to 30 years, Zeljko Tojaga from 30 years to 15, and Dusan Krsmanovic from 30 to 20 years in prison. Aleksandar Simovic, Ninoslav Konstantinovic and Vladimir Milisavljevic were sentenced to 35 years, Milos Simovic, Milan Jurisic and Branislav Bezarevic received 30 years each, while Sasa Pejakovic was given eight years in jail. Vladimir Milisavljevic, Sretko Kalinic, Milan Jurisic, Ninoslav Konstantinovic and Milos Simovic have been fugitives since 2003. Those accused of Djindjic’s assassination were given a second verdict and sentenced to a total of 348 years in prison, while the first verdict gave them 378 years. Zemun Clan leaders Dusan Spasojevic and Mile Lukovic were killed on March 27, 2003, in the village of Meljak, near Belgrade.
