It surprises me to see small countries sticking their noses in big business that really has nothing to do with them. Don't they realise it will eventually come back to haunt them?

You have to hand it to the EU they know how to pick them and Plenkovic has certainly shown his experience at dealing with highly sensitive issues. Its always smart to recall the old proverb that its better to keep quiet and be thought a fool then to open one’s mouth and remove any doubt. Sadly, Croats can never help themselves.
The article on B92 is short but there are longer on this very issue. In laymen’s terms Russia has told Zagreb not only to mind its own business, but not to interfere in matters that do not concern it since its recent history entails the ethnic cleansing of 250,000 Serbs.
Normally, diplomatic etiquette does not extend to mentioning specific subjects so this is the equivalent of getting a head kicking with a steel tipped boot. Me thinks Croatia has got the message, but if they are exceptionally stupid Moscow will end up making Zagreb’s life very, very difficult.

As a Croatian I have to agree that Plenkovic's statement was definitely misplaced.

Experience Plenkovic offered from peaceful reintegration of occupied territories simply cannot be applied to the situation in Ukraine. The main reason being that the two situations regarding occupied territories are not nearly the same.

Croatia was able to peacefully reintegrate occupied territories after it brought serb rebels and paramilitary forces to their knees. The serbs in Croatia had no choice but to sign on for peaceful reintegration because, simply put, they lost the war and their aspirations for a greater serbia were shattered and they had to face that reality.

On the other hand in Ukraine, Russia is nowhere near the position serbs were in Croatia. Russia has the upper hand there and is militarily stronger, so peaceful reintegration of occupied territories will remain a dream for them.

As for the other BS about ethnic cleansing, where was Russia when serbs ethnically cleansed those territories 5 years earlier pushing 300 000 people out of their homes?

What would Croatia know about anything to do with peace!! They have very selective memories! !!! Sort themselves out first before trying to give stupid advice to others! !

Desire of Croatia to help recognized UN member to maintain it's integrity is understandable. And in this matter their experiences can be valuable. Serbian government should ask them for guidance and learn from their peaceful reintegration experiences, and in this way reintegrate Kosovo.

The Balkans are a side show in comparison to Syria and its overall importance to the US. If the US and friends cannot stop Russia in controlling Syria, and they can’t, then the rest is history.
Croatia can receive military aid from the Martians and it would not help her. The “aid” its received so far are a couple of second hand scout helicopters which are as useful as an ashtray on a motorcycle. They need helicopter guns ships and attack helicopters not sightseeing aircraft. This aid is not for free as Croatia has to pay for it. As far as missiles are concerned Croatia will never see them.

To give you an example of how far things have changed, the referendum in RS was given the green light by Moscow and it was held without a peep from anyone else. The predictions prior to the vote was chaos and possible armed insurrection by the Bosniaks. Where was the US to stop it????? NOWHERE.
You can forget the US starting anything. Trump was not voted because he was the best candidate. He won because of the desperation of ordinary people.

With the hawks coming to power in Washington it looks like the alliances are being formed.
The US has already written off Serbia and where Montenegro stands is a big question mark in blocking Russian influence in the region.
Croatia has been receiving military aid from the United States for the last few years and continues to send personnel to the US to get trained.
It looks like the new cold war lines are being drawn and Serbia and Croatia are on opposite sides. Bosnia is still a mess and The Kosovo situation is a thorn for Serbia which can be exploited bu the US when it wants if Serbia becomes too close to Russia.
So to assume that the actions of Croatia were a misstep in their foreign policy is closing your eyes to the big picture where the two players are moving their pieces on the chess board and testing each other.
