On another note, happy Armistice Day. Serbia lost 28% of its population in WWI heroically defending its freedom and independence, not just of Serbia's but of all of Yugoslavia's. So, Gavrilo Princip, a member of the organization known as the black hand was the individual who pulled the trigger that assassinated the Austro-Hungarian (AH) arch duke and duchess in 1914.
This organization, which was also part of the plot to murder Serbia royal couple. Seems to me that this organization wasn't sponsored by the Serbian government (monarchy) of the time.
However, to really dig into this whole mess, lets step back 6 years from 1914, 1908 when AH empire annexed Bosnia (BiH) and Herzegovina into their territory. If one considers this, it was Princip and the Black hand that righted a wrong. if princip is tied to WW1, then it is precisely the annexation of BiH that triggered Princip's organization, and subsequent the teenager himself, into assassinating the interloper Duke -- it was AH empire that is the source of the assignation, and thus the start of the war.
Consider current international conditions, wonder what would happen if Ukrainian citizen assassinates Putin because of Crimea. Putin started this mess by annexing Crimean (Archduke started this mess by annexing BiH). Either Putin and Duke are both justified in annexing territory, or they're both wrong and deserve their comeuppances.

Enough of blaming Serbia for WW1, look to the source of the problem, the AH annexation of BiH, and furthermore the German ultimatum -- totally unacceptable by anybody's standards. That was the start. Serbia was caught in between.

About who started WW1? The people involved in the assination were called Young Bosnia and they comprised of Serbs, Croats and Bosniaks. Funny how the Serbs are only ever mentioned, but I supposed they don’t want the dumb ones in the west to get confused.
It now common knowledge that the Austrians were afraid of this new idea called Pan Slavism which Serbia was pushing, but Serbia was not in a position to fight another war since it came out of the Balkan wars and in the words of Nikola Pasic said “we need 20 years to recover”. The Austrians wanted to take over Serbia and divide it amongst Bulgaria, Romania and itself (does this division part is identical to what was proposed for Serbia recently). The Germans wanted clear access to Asia Minor and that was it interest. In fact Austria made plans 2 years prior to the commencement of hostilities.
Duke Ferdinand was against any war with Serbia but when he was killed the Austrians send an ultimatum which was near identical to the Rambouillet agreement and the rest is history.
