China, Hungary, Serbia discuss high-speed rail line

China, Hungary and Serbia on Friday held a fifth trilateral meeting on a project to modernize and reconstruct the rail line from Belgrade to Budapest.

This is an excellent project. Serbia-Belgrade must be accessible via fast rail system from EU. That is what government is for: to build infrastructure. Past present and future are trains. then let private investors use it and bring businesses in serbia. Currently is a shame how close Belgrade is to center of Europe but it takes 10 + hours to travel. there are no hills and canyons and no tunnels to build between 2 cities. should be done asap!

Can we see the cost-benefit analysis for this? While rail connections from Serbia to the EU certainly need to be faster, I don't see how this makes sense. Nor does this seem to be a priority for infrastructure spending in Serbia or the Balkans in general.
