Italy's ex-PM "fears there won't be a Europe" next September

There is no national solution to terrorism or migrations - they both need a European solution, says former Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta.

These problems Europe has won't be solved by dividing Europe, but by further strengthening it. We need to finally make our millennia-old dream come true and unite Europe into a single country, a new global power, which will be able to make its own policies instead of adapting to the ones dictated by the US and/or Russia, a country not based on outdated things like religion and ethnicity, but by common goals and European values, in order to integrate the immigrants rather than keeping them separated.

Don't fear it - welcome it!

Nations can still make organisations - but it doesn't have to be the EU.

Without the EU it will be easier to have better trade relations with poor and developing countries. Perhaps then there would be fewer economic migrants desperate to escape into Europe.

I am a greater believer in Europe and the European family. Yes as a UK citizen I voted to stay in the European Union. But reading your piece this morning I think you are spot on. Merkel did ignore all existing treaties, and I am beginning to think that Europe as a concept is finished. The British have always wanted a trading relationship and we invented the Single Market, so its going to be funny if the EU stops us trading within it. It all sounds familiar. Napoleon, before stopped European nations trading with the British in an earlier age. Portugal was the only one that defied him until it too was brought into line. I think History could be repeating itself.

Well, EU leaders only have themselves to blame because they caused all this mess. The answer of the EU to the mess created by the EU is that we need more EU. And people start to see through that.

And regarding: "Take Germany, for instance: A few months ago, when Germany welcomed hundreds of thousands of refugees and the rest of Europe didn't do their part, Germans felt left alone as well,".
That is because Germany unilaterally without consulting its EU partners decided to postpone the Dublin Agreement and let all these people in. So the other countries then thought "if you like your migrants, you can keep your migrants. If you don't like them, you can keep them too".
Merkel thinks she is the chancellor of whole Europe. The rest of the continent gave her a reality check.
