Assad's Syria was a liberal paradise compared to the rest of the Middle East. Women could drive cars, go to school, don't have to wear the hijab. Christians had a right to go to church and wear crosses around their necks. These things sound trivial, but not in the Middle East. Syria was indeed a more liberal country that some of its neighbours but if allowing women to drive is that standard that you aspire to in your country then you are a sad case indeed.
Assad was the biggest supporter of ISIS in the region and still supports them. Not becasue he likes them but they are useful to him. He first used them to attack Iraq and Lebanon. Under pressure from US he reduced his support but when the protests started against him, he allowed hundreds of ISIS prisoners free from syrian and Lebanin jails so that he could paint the opposition as terrorists.

Apart from his support for ISIS, Assad has killed more civilians than any other group in Syria. I think that is a good enough reason to be anti-Assad.
If you think helping Assad to stay in power will somehow stop ISIS then there is no hope for you. You also confuse anti-Assad with being pro-ISIS. You do realise that you can be anti-Assad and anti-ISIS at the same time.

Assad's Syria was a liberal paradise compared to the rest of the Middle East. Women could drive cars, go to school, don't have to wear the hijab. Christians had a right to go to church and wear crosses around their necks. These things sound trivial, but not in the Middle East. Certainly not in Saudi Arabia where a woman can't even walk outside her home without being escorted by a male relative. And wouldn't you know, it is Saudi Arabia that is the main funding source for the radical Islamists looking to get rid of Assad.

Assad was the biggest supporter of ISIS in the region and still supports them. Not becasue he likes them but they are useful to him. He first used them to attack Iraq and Lebanon. Under pressure from US he reduced his support but when the protests started against him, he allowed hundreds of ISIS prisoners free from syrian and Lebanin jails so that he could paint the opposition as terrorists.

Apart from his support for ISIS, Assad has killed more civilians than any other group in Syria. I think that is a good enough reason to be anti-Assad.
If you think helping Assad to stay in power will somehow stop ISIS then there is no hope for you. You also confuse anti-Assad with being pro-ISIS. You do realise that you can be anti-Assad and anti-ISIS at the same time.

500+ civilians were killed in the US bombing of Yugoslavia and you still rage about it 17 years later. Assad kills 500 civilians every 2 weeks in Syria and you think they want him to stay in power?

Russia is already targeting the hospitals and medical centers, while the number one target of Assad for the last five years is food-markets. Women and children that leave and have nowhere to go will end up in refugee camps where they also will be bombed by Assad and Russia. Males that leave will be either imprisoned and tortured or forced to join the SAA. Joining the SAA is adeath sentence, they are just about the most useless army to take part in any war ever. Without the support of Iran,Hezbollah and Russia they would be finished by now.

In 1999 the US hit a hospital in Belgrade and killed 3 patients, it is often mentioned on these comments as a war crime.
Russia is deliberately targeting hosptals, Assad is deliberately targeting markets and both are being cheered on by the same people who condemn that bombing.

You can argue specifics about whether ISIL is a simple continuation of AQI and previous groups all you want but the point is the same, Assad supported the group in a huge way and now uses them as a threat to keep Syrian citizens in line. During initial protests in 2011 he could have taken several paths, he decided to kill and torture protesters and release ISIS priosoners to kill and radacalize citizens.

IS and AQ did not split permanently until 2013, before that they worked together. They created Al-Nusra together and Al Qaeda provided both money and men to al-Zarqawi for the formation of JTJ which eventually became ISIS.
