From Facts: "Yugoslavia joined the Axis on March 24, 1941."

WRONG!!Yugoslavia signed a neutrality pact allowing German troop movement throughout Yugoslavia.

And if you want to go by the username Facts, why did you leave out the fact that two days after this neutrality pact was signed, the Serbian people staged a coup and overthrew the government and chose to fight Hitler and were bombed relentlessly by the Nazis.

Conversely, Croatia had already welcomed Hitler and his Nazi killers into Zagreb wit a parade. Why do you conveniently leave these FACTS out? Your attempt to equate WWII Serbia as Nazi partners is shameful and smacks of historical revisionism. Time to change your username.

World War II came to Yugoslavia as a direct result of the pro-Axis sentiments of the Serbian controlled Yugoslav government. Under Prince Paul Yugoslavia moved steadily away from France and toward Germany after the death of King Alexander. As early as February of 1936 Hitler promised to support the government of Premier Milan Stojadinovic.

By 1937 Stojadinovic had visited Mussolini, developed his own squad of "Green Shirts" and adopted the Nazi salute. It was perhaps taking the title Vodja (Fuhrer) that finally sent Prince Paul into action, replacing Stojadinovic with Dragisa Cvetkovic who maintained the same pro-Axis foreign policy but with fewer Fascist trappings.

Prince Paul saw the Third Reich as the only power able to maintain the artificial state of Yugoslavia and he began secret negotiations with top Nazi officials in December 1939. He hoped that he could become King under the New Order, denying the young Crown Prince Peter his title. Yugoslavia joined the Axis on March 24, 1941. The only member of the government who refused to sign the "Pact of Steel" joining the Axis was the Croatian minister, Vladko Macek of the Croatian Peasant Party. After the signing Cvetkovic assured Hitler that Yugoslavia "...would be ready to cooperate with Germany in every way." In fact, Paul had been cooperating since 1939 with mass arrests of Jews, strict racial laws, and the prohibition of trade unions.

Nice "précise of virtue" POV but sadly just the usual monologue of codswallop from another little xenophobe who like this bunch of Nazis gathered round their trough in Zagreb thinks they can somehow justify and remorselessly celebrate evicting 15% of their "own" population. It's difficult to find a "country" more devoid of morals on the face of the Earth but seemingly you appear to rejoice in that badge of honour so,please, enjoy your miserable existence. It will come back to haunt you one day, guaranteed.

Let's start to use proper terminology when discussing the war of aggression and expansion against Croatia. Victim is usually used to refer to people who have been injured, or killed as a result of aggression. A casualty is a person injured or killed as a result of war, or a bad event or situation. Aggressors, like the Serbs who took Croatian territory and originally expelled and killed people to ethnically cleanse the area for their territorial expansion, inflicted death and injury on people who are victims. The aggressor's people who were killed and injured during and when enforcing aggression are usually referred to as casualties. Serbs can be victims in this situation, but they are victims of a failed policy and manipulation of their leadership. While every loss of life is sad; indeed unnecessary & tragic, Operation Storm was a defensive action to right a wrong; a legitimate reaction to aggression which Croatia suffered many more victims throughout the war. Operation Storm, except for Serbs, was the most clean, effective military action with minimal casualties; it is studied as a brilliant & cleanest military strategies. Not recognising/acknowledging this is simply dishonesty & distortion. Compare the the re-taking of Knin to what the Serbs did in Vukovar; Serb decimation ad no regard for ethics, or morality and caused tremendous victims. Why aren't Serbs mourning all those it killed, expelled and whose lives they devastated? No true regard or understanding of victim.
