Negotiations have already started ( officially in 2005). Kosovo did not declare independence until 2008, its earlier declaration was not recognized by anyone. Some EU members still do not recognize Kosovo

It is impossible for the EU to create a new requirement in 2008 to begin negotiations that started 3 years previously.
It would not happen that the EU would insist on Serbia recognizing a country that no EU member recognized.

Even if the hospital gave you wrong dosage today and and meant to say finish instead of start, it would not happen in 2016 that EU would insist on Serbia recognizing a country that not all EU members recognized. Spain for instance would block this.

What Doris Pack said was an opinion or a mistake. You will find some MEP somewhere to back up any statement you want. Now if 400 MEPs say it, you might have a problem, but for the moment if it is not in writing, it is not required and if it was in writing you would have posted it already.

Please give up posting your garbage opinions as facts.

I totally agree with the CE of B92 forums sj, as always, that the initial versions of the stabilisation agreement must be immediately revised, as the CE of B92 forums commands, to include Kosovo's recognition as a condition. Once that happens, the "washed down" analysis by the CE of B92 forums sj will become the reality, as it should!

The problem with people like you is that memory is not a very important issue. I have lost count of numbers from the EU parliament starting with Doris Pack who have repeated over and over again that Serbia MUST recognise Kosovo before negotiations start. In fact I recall various German politicians used to repeat that same mantra.
In fact I recall that the stabilisation agreement plus free movement of Serbs in the EU were initially also subject to recognising Kosovo, but over the years that has been all washed down at your expense.
It is ONLY in very recent times the EU has changed its tact and started this babble of “good relations” business. This is absolutely MEANINGLESS and in fact works in Belgrade’s favour since Belgrade has signed the Brussels Agreement, and the Albanians will not implement that agreement because works against them.
I have NEVER disputed what Davenport has stated because Belgrade signed the agreement and that proves on its part there are good relations. You guys are screwed again.

"How many times have we heard that EU entry negotiations would not commence if Serbia does not recognise Kosovo. If I had a dollar for every time I heard that I would be wealthier than Bill Gates".
(sj, 27 July 2016 09:36)

Not very often will you hear this, you might have $5 because you seem to listen to idiots or invent stories if you cant find someone who will say what you want.

I have heard several politicians mistakenly say that recognizing Kosovo was a requirement for Serbia to enter EU.
I don't think I have ever heard anyone say that negotiations would not commence if Serbia does not recognize Kosovo.

The EU has stated many times that recognition of Kosovo is not a requirement for entry. If it is not a requirement for entry then it cannot be a requirement for start of negotiations.
The requirement is good relations with Kosovo. Obviously recognition of Kosovo is the best way to have good relations but it is not the only way.

Ireland,UK both joined EU despite a major territorial dispute. There is also the case of Cyprus and several other smaller disputes.

Here you go, you can now stop saying that Serbia must recognise Kosovo:
"Head of EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport said today that the goal of negotiating Chapter 35 was not the recognition of Kosovo but a comprehensive normalisation of Belgrade-Pristina relations."

O my god! You have the wrong impression of leader my dear. Being armed more than your neighbors that make you a leader? Mahh.. Serbian mentality, for that you will never be a leader.
Slovenia & Croatia honestly are to much better economically, more even than Romania and Bulgaria in Balkan. The rest of us is a disaster. Albania is the most poor country followed by Serbia, with a lot of ethnic problems, that should be considered.
Slovenia can’t be a leader because she is to indifferent and like to stay out of Balkan mess, including here Romania and Bulgaria.
Even Croatians which are part of Balkan mess, but they like to “try to act” a little bit like “leader” make use of their better position than the other countries in Balkan.
For the moment neither Serbia or Albania should be considered. Are to far away of being leader. To far.
Honestly I think that: Where the conflict are must come up a leader.
A leader in Balkan could be one (or more countries) which will be an important factor in Balkan stability economically and politically.
But, nobody can self advertise itself as a leader if others don’t follow.
Is there in Balkan a country's so open minded to be fair, to not be a threat, to accept the reality, and moved on? None!
Capish, i guess not because you are not a leader!

Why is Serbia more secure by placing sanctions on Russia? What is the benefit that Serbia achieves from doing this?
(Ari Gold, 25 July 2016 22:22)

Because it would show that Serbia is serious when it states its "principled" position about why Kosovo is Serbia. So there is a higher chance of being seriously taken and therefore a better chance to get Kosovo back.

Hahn is right, Serbia is a 'special case' in every respect, mainly in the field of lacking any knowledge on their own recent history. Where is the Balkans' butcher, Serbs? Where are Milosevic's widow and children? Where are the ones YOU covered with dishonour? Did you, any of you, have the chance to read Karadzic' judgement exhonerating Milosevic from war crimes, Serbs? It took me 3 min and a link provided here to understand who committed what in Bosnia. One could have never known back in the '90s what exactly was going on in the Balkans, but there are no excuses in 2016 for any of us and I've challenged some of you and you're clueless, Serbs. Do you have eyes or holes in your head? Milosevic's innocence was written in his face, Serbs. Friendly advice, go to church and pray for your own souls. And next time Hahn tells you you're special, ask him to elaborate.

Who said that Serbia is very special case? SJ? not its Johannes Hahn. Its always delightful to see in print what I and many other Serbs have been posting over many years.

Little Albos and Croats read it and weep lads LOL.

sj : I have been around long enough to know what Hahn means …

There were times when Serbs themselves were Khans at least their Njemanici and they used to tell other peoples what to do while Hahn is simply one of the versions of the word. See more derivatives : ХАН = can = kan = han = khan = hahn = cahn= kaan = kahan = kogan = kniaz in the Great Horde.

SJ: Why are you so excited at being called "special" by some unelected EU official when you, so often, emphatically state the EU is about to implode. Does the word self-contradictory come to mind.
(The Count of Kosova, 26 July 2016 17:53)

Whether Johannes Hahn is elected or unelected, or whether the EU is broke or about to collapse has nothing to do with my statement. I repeat my sentiments on Serbia joining the EU for the umpteen time, I hope it never joins.
All I wanted to say is that Hahn has confirmed what many Serbs have been saying, including me, that Serbia is very important to the EU.
Hope that’s clears up any misunderstandings.

It doesnt neccessarily mean that it was bad, it just means that you are not pleased with something but you still want to be polite.
(Gjon Marku, 26 July 2016 17:01)

I have been around long enough to know what Hahn means when he uses the word special. The EU is very keen to take in Serbia because of its importance to the EU. How many times have we heard that EU entry negotiations would not commence if Serbia does not recognise Kosovo? If I had a dollar for every time I heard that I would be wealthier than Bill Gates.
Yet Serbia has not done that nor many other things that were “in their way to joining the EU” and yet negotiations have commenced.

My dear albanian friend! You failed to see the irony in my comment. You don't actually think I was serious? Its been a while since I stopped taking commentators seriously at this forum. Mostly a bunch of low-lifes who are full of sh.t.
