Croatian FM says Serbia could face "severe sanctions"

Why don't you focus on living up to the promises Croatia made to get into the EU like allowing Cyrillic, prosecuting Croat war criminals, repatriating Serbs, reinstating pensions for Serbs, returning Serb owned property, etc? Croatia's hypocrisy is appalling.

It's hilarious whenever a sentence starts with "Croatia says...". Bottom line, nobody cares what 'Croatia Says...'. Go back to braiding tourists hair on the beach!

Merkel and Brussels have both told Croatia that the issues Zagreb has raised is a matter between them and Belgrade. It has nothing to do with EU entry.
The problem here is that Belgrade will change its stance on Croat war criminals and Croatia cannot do a thing about it.
What is even worse for Croatia, once this has been ratified if Belgrade issues an arrest warrant for say Gotovina, Zagreb has to comply. That my dear chickens is the problem.

Croatia's foreign ministry should be renamed to ministry for relations with Serbia. That's all this department handles anyway. In fact the whole damn government seems obsessed with Serbia to the point that they are not functioning in any other capacity. How is Croatia going to "sanction" Serbia? Is he ignorant to the fact that Croatia exports to Serbia FAR MORE than Serbia does to Croatia? Does he not know that Croatian businesses operate in Serbia far more than vice-versa?

Did he forget that just last year, Croatia closed borders to Serbia over migrants from Syria (???) and stood down within 24 hours of Serbia announcing economic sanctions on Croatia?

I'd love nothing more than sanctions because there should be a public campaign in Serbia to boycott Croatian products until they recognize Jasenovac and Oluja as genocide and return stolen property.

I'm Croatian, and I'm not proud of Miro Kovac. He is not a good politician. I am a conservative domoljub, but I think a politician must be skilled, and Kovac is definitely not skilled.

Krajina belongs to Serbs and was always Serbian. It should break off immediately.

Croatia's government just collapsed. Elections will be held no later than September and currently HDZ is being pulled back to the center while public opinion is shifting back to SNP. The brief reign of neo-Tudjmanism seems to mercifully be coming to a close despite whatever huffs and puffs these one-hit wonders still might say.

No, he is not ignorant of that fact, but he also knows that Croatia's exports to Serbia are 5,5% of Croatia's total exports... i.e. Serbia is not that relevant for Croatia's exports. Italy, Slovenia, Germany, Bosnia and Austria are more important for Croatia since more than half of Croatia's exports go to those countries.

Sure, as soon as Serbia shows that it is serious about the genocide in Jasenovac with actions, not just words! When Serbia prosecutes and convicts somebody for committing genocide in Jasenovac, then the question arises whether Croatia and others should recognize that. But for the moment there is nothing to recognize in the first place because there only thing we've seen from Serbia has been words and words, but no action.

As for stolen property, which Serbia's property has Croatia stolen?!

The Austrian "Kaiser" invited them to Vojna Krajina, he never said "This is Serbian land". There were still Croats and Germans in the region.

For Serbia, you can't just look at Croatia's exports which are already high enough, but look at the Croat owned brands operating in Serbia. Frikom, ideas, dijamont just to name a few. For Serbs to boycott these companies in addition to a ban on Croat exports, it would devastate their economy. Which I support until they come to terms with the genocides of Jasenovac and Oluja.

As far as property, dont be a smartass. It's not Serbia's property that was stolen, but property belonging to Serbs who were cleansed during Oluja.

Josipovic knew how to communicate with our neighbours, but he and Milanovic totally ruined our country. In 2014, when the so called "Social Democrats" ruled, the unemployment rate, national debt and number of people leaving the country reached it's all time-high. It would be better if we had a conservative government who knew how to communicate.

A question: Do you think that many Serbs want to invade our country, or are they only critical against the Croatian nationalists?

I have to agree with you only because we know how it is to have a government that hasn't communicated well in the past. However, I found that the Croatian's had very strong representation with Ivo Josipovic. I thought that he was very well educated and had quite a bit of respect in the region.

He really sounds like he is saying that no Croatian should ever be arrested by Serbs for anything. Should Croatians be immune from committing any crime at all against Serbs in a Serbian country? Should Serbia have no war crime statutes at all? What about Serbs that commit war crimes in Serbia? How would Serbs prosecute them?

It makes you wonder exactly what justice a Serbian victim of crime at the hands of a Croatian in Croatia should hope for.
