Speaking as a Bosnian who believes in multiculturalism (odd in Europe these days, I know), I would LOVE for RS to separate and be bye, bye for ever, so the rest of us can breathe and have one president, one CIVIL society without nationalists winning because we need to have tit-for-tat ALL THE TIME. However, the question is borders. Srebrenica CANNOT and WILL NEVER be in RS. All Bosnian Serbs + Bosniacs + Croats + Jews + Roma + Chinese + Bozo Vreca + mixed bags (yours truly) who wish to stay in Bosnia are my kind of people.

Thankfully Mr Serwer, you won't live long enough to follow the tales of the unexpected. Big changes and challenges are coming that may very likely sap all of your energies. Game over you cheeky chappy, a big surprise is coming forth. Analyst! Pristina and Sarajevo are about to become a fly in your euro-atlantic soup.

Regards from a former Analyst. Kiss your neocortical warfare, good night, good luck!

The RS is already de-facto independent.

25 years later the Dayton bond has gotten weaker... not stronger.

The trust between Sarajevo and Banja Luka has decreased... not increased.

The borders between S and RS have disintegrated... not strengthened.

The cultural associations between Banja Luka and Sarajevo have not increased... they have decreased.

The Central authority has gotten weaker... not stronger.

Winning independence means taking along view. Decades, not years.

Sit back, have a few drinks and wait it out. No rush.

Wait for those who are against to retire and pass on.

In the meantime keep on trucking and doing your own thing.

Slow motion separation.

"Even if he declared it, nobody would recognize that independence. Certainly not Serbia, because that would put it in a difficult position."

Indeed, why would Serbia recognize a unilaterally declared independence? About other states, I'm not so sure, Serwer knows how many countries (including his own) have recognized the unilateral independence, declared by an ethnic minority in the case of Kosovo.

"Of course I will not be deciding whether the RS will become independent. That has has already been decided and the decision will not be annulled. "

I can agree with him on one thing - things have been decided even long before Yugoslavia fell apart, and decisions will not be annulled.
Here, I will make one prediction myself - UK will not leave EU regardless of the result of referendum. That, and many other things have already been decided, and decisions will not be annulled.
It's just a way it is.

Bosnian Serbs held a non-violent, legitimate referendum in 1991 to remain in Yugoslavia.
(Tonawanda Snowfall, 17 May 2016 18:21)

Yup, but it appears the referendum asked the wrong question because the SFRY ceased to exist so the referendum's answer to the question about remaining in the SFRY was meaningless.

P.S. Doesn't that sound familiar, btw ? Some people appear to always have challenges formulating the right question lol

Tonawanda Snowfall

Is this anti-freedom professor another one of those 1990s James Michael Lewek disciples that Bill Clinton was puppeteer by once in office?

Bosnian Serbs held a non-violent, legitimate referendum in 1991 to remain in Yugoslavia.
That referendum created the Serb Republic on January 9th 1992, without violence. The world politically recognized the Serb Republic with the forced upon Dayton Peace Accord, which Bosnian Serbs did not sign.

If the KGB want Bosnian Serbs to remain in Izetbegovic's Islamic state, it's so they can keep a leash on Bosnian Islam. If KGB wants to puppeteer Bosnian Serbs then fund their economy like they did with Cuba.

Serbs have more of a right to independence on their land than the citizens of the U.S. on American Indian soil. Islam forced its way into the Balkan peninsula, kidnapping Christian boys to fight Christians, which is something similar to what the corrupt portions of USA have done with Serb politicians, bureaucrats and businesses.

Demands from Brussels. whether for or against independent RS,, that statement is offensive. The war is over and I suspect neither Serbs nor Bosnia truly want another blood bath. For all the heroic couch bravado shown here, the truth is that those wars were enthusiastically supported by the west which brought death and destruction to all, which we still struggle to overcome even today. They the west got exactly what they wanted, splintered and divided people, easier to control. Here is the interesting part. It’s true that while ever the windbags in Washington are in power RS will not be recognised, but sadly for those clowns the times are a changing and very soon the US will not be asked.
What Server does not understand is that RS does not want to be independent but to join with Serbia. Damaging ties with Washington will not be a great loss.
Let’s see if the Washington windbags do better in the South China Sea or will they come home with the tails between their legs like last time? LOL.

Hatred of Serbs has been much of the motivation for much of Serwer's work. Anyway, I don't see anyone in RS threatening to separate formally. RS is in many ways more independent than 'kosovo' because the latter depends on dictation from the West whereas RS really does what it wants. So the current framework is just fine, only attempts to remove functions that belong to the RS would result in an actual seperation.

For all the heroic couch bravado shown here, the truth is that those wars were enthusiastically supported by the west which brought death and destruction to all, which we still struggle to overcome even today. They the west got exactly what they wanted, splintered and divided people, easier to control. RS independence is against what the west wants, not what locals want. why on earth would bosnian care if Serbs in RS want independence or not? For all purposes, they are separated already and Dayton is bad for both sides. Holbrook is burning , and more are sure to follow from all sides. If Serbs or Bosnians want out, then it is they and only they who should decide together under a mutually agreed upon decision. Not Brussels, Holly crap, that's insane.

What ever floats your boat mate. You can call us worse than that and it wont change anything. Kosovo is the love of our life. With all her flaws, we hold her dear while you can watch from the outside.
