"Serbia in EU with Kosovo - or not at all" - president

Serbia is firmly on the path towards full membership in the EU, but wants to enter Europe as an integral whole - either that or nothing, says Tomislav Nikolic.

Does Serbia really want Kosovo? The country/region is 95% ethnic Albanian, jihadist groups and their sympathizers have infiltrated mosques, there is massive corruption, poverty and unemployment are extreme, and most of all, the majority of the people in Kosovo don't want to be part of Serbia (that number would change if Serbia joined the EU). We can argue about the causes of these problems, but they are just the plain facts. I don't know how or why Serbia would want to absorb the massive problems in Kosovo. There's no way that Serbs will be allowed to commit genocide, expel people, or even repress Albanians. It just isn't feasible. If Serbia has the ambition to join the EU, bringing Kosovo back into th fold would set them back 20 years.

And your point being? He was a cemetery supervisor not a digger but even if he was a digger so what? Everyone has to start somewhere and as long as it's honest work it's all fine.

-- I agree with this.

At least he's not a career politician with a degree in law or from a union and has no real life experience. Any government could do with a few more of Nikolics who have real experience at running companies than people whose only life experience was in a lecture or as part of a union.

To my best knowledge, correct me if I am wrong, Serbia is the only country in the world which has a president who used to be a grave digger supervisor. I guess that is something to be very proud of, and I think it says a lot.

There is no difference between Serbs from Vojvodina or elsewhere. I have a relative who married a girl from Vojvodina and I met her parents and other relatives who live in Subotica and I saw no difference, but you may have a different version.
Who mentioned gays?
I spent 6 months in Europe last year from March to end of September and I travelled extensively throughout Serbia and crime is in most places. Yes things were very different before the break up of Yugoslavia and places were safe, no one lived on the streets, but that is the price of western democracy aka rampant drugs, homelessness and crime. The only thing you get looking back is a sore neck.
Slovenia, Croatia, BiH and Macedonia are all the same mate. You should go there sometime.
What do you think that joining the EU things will improve? Yeah, keep on dreaming.

Since it was lost decades ago why are all these Albanians, including you, on a Serb-based website tell everyone that its all gone???????? Surely you don’t need to do that or is it a matter of convincing yourselves first.
If you even travelled in Vojvodina you would see that it’s very well looked after. However, since you do not live there nor anywhere in Serbia and your only source of information is Wikipedia then its little wonder you post such a funny statement.
(sj, 10 May 2016 11:02)

First of all, the key difference between Vojvodina Serbs and Serbians is your tendency to label people you disagree with as Albanians or gays or any other group you deem unacceptable.
Secondly, since recently, Vojvodina is among the least safe parts of Serbia and Novi Sad is the crime capital of Serbia. Back when we had full autonomy, Novi Sad was one of the safest cities in the entire Yugoslavia.

Sandzak is in a better situation than anything I’ve seen in Kosovo or Albania so there is no need to worry too much, and who cares about NATO or the EU.
I’m fascinated to read about joining the EU, but after nearly 7 years on this site I have not once read about the benefits, aside of the EU propaganda on trade, development and eternal happiness.

Kosovo is the heartland of Serbia but Kosovo is no longer an integral part of Serbia.
Nikolic sets a firm stance in order to score with the populous and to secure his own political agenda, knowing very well that a return to the old days is extremely unlikely.
Making these either-or demands does nothing to further the cause of a better future for Serbia nor does it make Serbia any safer. All he has achieved is deepening the rift between 'us' and 'them'.

You still find it hard to come to terms that no matter what the “White Muslims” want in Kosovo they are not going to get it. You will never be allowed to join with Albania no matter how much you wish for it.

The EU want Kosovo to join with Serbia because Kosovo is economically unsustainable, but the only people that are deluding themselves are the Albanian diaspora who think that sending back a few Euros every month is going to make a difference.
NATO is now a military joke since time and time again it has been shown that it excels only in providing excellent working lunches and dinners with superb wines and nothing more. The Rand Corporation ran a computer model on the scenario that Russia invades the Baltics and the result was horrifying for NATO. Even with that 30,000 ready reaction force it would be resoundingly defeated.
If you find that hard to believe then read the attachment on the readiness of US forces, which are the backbone of NATO. Remember the American Enterprise Institute is a far right wing think tank that believes even Ronny Reagan had pinko tendencies.

I’m fascinated to read about joining the EU, but after nearly 7 years on this site I have not once read about the benefits, aside of the EU propaganda on trade, development and eternal happiness.
No one has been able to explain it in simple English.

So much for a NATO base in Kosovo LOL!!!!

Kosovo was lost decades ago and we're not joining EU and NATO until we accept it. Instead of trying to turn back time, mr. President, why don't you try to do something for the people in the territories you actually do have, like Sandzak and Vojvodina?

Tomislav Nikolić was born in Kragujevac. His father, Radomir, was a labourer, and his mother, Živadinka (née Đoković), was a housewife. In his youth, he trained in athletics. He completed secondary technical school in Kragujevac. His first employment was as a cemetery supervisor.'

To Observer,
He ,Nikolic was a cemetery supervisor, not grave digger !.So stop lying and exaggerating the profession. It's a honest day's work being a Grave digger or cemetery supervisor. It's better than your Shqiptars braking ,destroying, looting and stealing hraves from Serb cemeteries.
P's Stop Lying again ,as usual. I saw Djuric last week in Kosovska Mitrovica with no ID card!.

I did not think of mr Nikolic as man with Balls. EU is a Totalitarian Regime setup by the political Elites Serbia doesn't have to be a member of EU in order to trade with them. pay small fee and you can trade with them. 28 European countries is not the whole world.

And your point being? He was a cemetery supervisor not a digger but even if he was a digger so what? Everyone has to start somewhere and as long as it's honest work it's all fine.
At least he's not a career politician with a degree in law or from a union and has no real life experience. Any government could do with a few more of Nikolics who have real experience at running companies than people whose only life experience was in a lecture or as part of a union.

Since it was lost decades ago why are all these Albanians, including you, on a Serb-based website tell everyone that its all gone???????? Surely you don’t need to do that or is it a matter of convincing yourselves first.

If you can read, go to wikipedia, and lot's of other sources provide you with the same info. Google gives you lots of references to the former profession of your president:

To my best knowledge, correct me if I am wrong, Serbia is the only country in the world which has a president who used to be a grave digger supervisor. I guess that is something to be very proud of, and I think it says a lot.

so you want to call him 'grave digger superviser'. hahaha ... fact is that he is seen and called 'the grave digger' around the world. just google for 'Nicolc grave digger' and you will see that the BBC, New York Times, Spiegel, Observer, almost any newspaper in the world refers to your president as 'the grave digger'.
