"Pope Francis personally stopped canonization of Stepinac"

For far too long the truth about the Ustasha brutal regime has been swept under the rug and with it, the role the Catholic church played in supporting these murderers. This is a good first step by the current Pope, but it's too early to tell how sincere he is about seeking the truth.

In any event, I find it very revealing that little Serbia who has been demonized by the western world for the wars of the 90s and economically devastated by international sanctions, has the power to stall and possibly stop the canonization of someone from mighty Croatia, the darling of the west during the war of the 90s and newest member of the EU. You had to know Croatia's Nazi past would catch up with her sooner or later. Too funny.

I'm not a Catholic, but Pope Francis appears a decent and honourable man. Whatever your opinion of Stepinac, the fact remains he was chief cleric of a disgusting and genocidal regime, that even the Nazis struggled to stomach. And that's saying something. He was well aware of what Croat militias were doing in the towns and villages of the NDH, never mind the concentration camps. Apart from pathetic representations to the monster Pavelic, he did nothing to stop it. To canonize Stepinac would be grotesque.
