yes indeed the balkan peninsula is one of the most sought after regions for numerous reasons. growing conditions are among europe's best. it is at the intersection of europe and eurasia - all land trade goes through balkans.
now serbia specifically isn't as interesting. neither is any one particular state in the balkans. the key is for outside forces to have easy access to allow their traded goods to pass without having to pay the toll.
there's a reason why the colonials had to go elsewhere to feed and enrich their own. northern-rich europe does not have the means to feed their people without importing it, and haven't for a number of generations. having full control of the trade route makes it cheaper and thus creates more profit for those that would wish to control the balkans.
all it takes is just 1 path. serbia has negotiated itself out of that path for the time being. but can europe trust the plan b path that it has had to go? so, yes lets control everything and we'll have seem-less smooth enterprise.
Who is we? Russia? How about letting Serbia and others in the region make their own decisions? Russia is not Serbia's master.

Who is we? Russia? How about letting Serbia and others in the region make their own decisions? Russia is not Serbia's master.

yes indeed the balkan peninsula is one of the most sought after regions for numerous reasons. growing conditions are among europe's best. it is at the intersection of europe and eurasia - all land trade goes through balkans.
now serbia specifically isn't as interesting. neither is any one particular state in the balkans. the key is for outside forces to have easy access to allow their traded goods to pass without having to pay the toll.
there's a reason why the colonials had to go elsewhere to feed and enrich their own. northern-rich europe does not have the means to feed their people without importing it, and haven't for a number of generations. having full control of the trade route makes it cheaper and thus creates more profit for those that would wish to control the balkans.
all it takes is just 1 path. serbia has negotiated itself out of that path for the time being. but can europe trust the plan b path that it has had to go? so, yes lets control everything and we'll have seem-less smooth enterprise.
