“the American said he would agree to apologize, if his victim apologizes to him.”

Probably lots of threats from the American Embassy. I would be surprised if the Americans now issued an international arrest warrant for the stabbed Serbian for causing terrible stress and loss of income to the innocent American. Culafic can expect to be on the FBI “Most Wanted” list of international criminals. Serbia could face sanctions if they don’t hand him over. This is the “justice” primitive peoples can expect from the Master Race in the western world.

bringing up kovacevic case is a bit like flogging a dead horse.
did he leave the us, where he committed the crime. yes. was he tried, yes. was he sentenced, yes, with a similar sentencing as the other two american accomplices.
now, what was it that his mother nation did. they brought him home to be tried there. it kinda reminds me of the 1998 cavalese cable car disaster. two american pilots recklessly flew to fast, and too low, so that they could take photographs of the scenery, and cut the cable to a gondola, causing a few dozen innocent civilians to plummet to their deaths. in the dust storm the us hurriedly brought their boys home to be tried in america, not in italy.
both situations the offender was very in the wrong.
in both cases, the offenders were punished in accordance to their home laws.
in one case two "professionals" carelessly killed numerous people. in the other one drunken punk reacted in an over-the-top fashion to another drunken punk.
which is more bad? act of passion or careless disregard.

Of course! Serbian ethics 101. This lovely man Kovacevic exemplifies the Serbian spirit! Not only did he flee the USA after putting a kid half his size into a coma and suffered permanent brain damage, but the Serbian government helped him escape justice by giving him a passport illegally. The words of an homer able man:

"Miladin Kovacevic said he wasn't taking the plea for the victim, Bryan Steinhauer - he said he was doing it for the sake of Serbia."

Typical reply to a crime just like the Serbian War Criminals in The Hague!

I see, so it's open season on Serbs now. Anyone can just go to Serbia, do whatever they want with any Serb and it's fine because you have a warped sense of history and justice.

The judge should have a book thrown at him first and then an appeal launched.

guy's in jail for stabbing someone after trying to flee the country
he gets off with an apology
he won't do it without the victim apologizing first

Agree, but thrown the book at the judge first for abusing his position and then launch an appeal against the sentence. These has clearly been a miscarriage of justice. The nerve of that criminal. Demanding an apology from the victim. He should thank his lucky stars that Serbs are spineless and he got off lightly. He is pracically laughing in their face.

Whoa, easy there. Like everywhere in Europe, the US is infected with "migrants". Let's examine his immigration status before we judge Americans too harshly. We might even examine the immigration status of the victim as well.

Yes that's true (previous comment)but the truth is he's American, he could have raped my wife, he'd still walk away from the crime.
Serbia should grow some balls and the justice should be in line with reciprocity, what ever punishment the person would receive in there own state should be dealt to them internationally, if not more severe.

What the hell did we expect? He is an american they are allowed to do whatever they want all over the world (with some exceptions like Russia). He could have raped a minor and butchered her and the US embassy would get him out with nothing but a slap on the wrist.

The perpetrator of this crime having been found guilty of the serious offence of Grievous Bodily Harm, and not sentenced to custody, is no position to debate the nature of his sentence. If he refuses unequivocally to apologise, he should be returned to court and re sentenced, possibly to custody.
