It is also getting ready to produce tanks again, so arms industry will not only help Serbia defend itself but grow its economy at the same time.

Serbia has presented a concept of the М-20UP-1, the country's "tank of the future", at the Partner 2015 military exhibition in Belgrade. Designers said that they were inspired by the Russian-made Armata tank when developing the М-20UP-1, according to the Serbian news website Vecernje Novosti Online.Read more: [link]

Yeah, that would certainly be a marvel of the 21st century! It's a shame though that Serbia being a failed state makes problematic the turning of such a marvel into reality! http://www.b92.net/eng/news/politics.php?yyyy=2016&mm=01&dd=13&nav_id=96685

The Arms industry is part of the economy and used to be one of the most thriving in Serbia and the former Yugoslavia. If anyone was paying attention, the modernization of Serbian arms will include internal production and design as well as importing Russian arms at favorable rates. Serbia has recently unloaded most of its surplus firearms to the US. It is also getting ready to produce tanks again, so arms industry will not only help Serbia defend itself but grow its economy at the same time.

Actually rote, Germany can't even compare with Russian army - so, what make them so strong! What make them "leader".
I would not like that my country waste my money in a big army - we are not in war with nobody, and we have no intention to. Arms and “army” industry must be a profit for country like US or Russia which invest in “wars” but not to a small country like mine. We just lose and waste money – money which must be invested in growing the economy.

Too bad YU ceased to exist. reformed, post communist and post monarchist union of independent unique but still very similar and in essence friendly nations had a chance to be a big success. it would prevent this arms race and preserve culture. what lacked and now lacks more is that leaders intellectuals in Serbia turn against backwards fractions in Serbian church and to turn towards west. And Croatian people would welcome such union that would better protect their properties cultural identity and standards of living. Same with Slovenians which would be better of that Switzerland in such a big country.
what we have no is a race to be a better vassal to power to help interest of that power against your brothers.
Albanians and Bosnians would easily follow if serbs and croats were able to make such a union.
but again, if Belgrade push Russia and SPC agenda it cannot expect anything better.

Serbia should invest in modern arms because it has been invaded a lot and because Serbia's enemies never significantly changed its policies towards Serbia. If Serbia does not modernize its defense capabilities it will become an easy target and that will make it, and the entire region unstable. The truth is that a weak Serbia is no good for the region.

During the last years of Yugoslavia, the country was designing its own aircraft and missles. Now, instead of being producers, the former Yugoslav republics are consumers. If only those designs had been completed, and if only there was peace, Serbia Bosnia, Croatia and Slovenia could have been exporting Novi Avion. Aquiring and design of new weaponry can either be to make war or it can be to stabilize peace. As long as reasonable people are in Government, a defensive weapons program could be wonderful for the economy

This has been Serbias problem throughout her history, instead of minding her own business, affairs, and problems she has in her presence to deal with. They instead worry about other countries what they're up to. If croatians decide to buy weapons how is that a threat to serbia?
(MindYourOwnBusiness, 12 January 2016 15:24)

Croatia is trying to arm itself with sophisticated weapons at a time when its economy is struggling and Serbia has to respond in kind if Croatia goes through with it. Weapons of this caliber highlight offensive intentions and neighboring Serbia has every right to react the way and protect itself.

Would it be minding Serbia's business if it sanctioned every Croat businessman operating in Serbia? What if the Serbian market was completely closed for Croatian exports? It would be devastating (for Croatia)

It would be a lot better for everybody if Croatia just stands down now before things get serious.

What weapons are Albania and Kosovo going to put on alert?!!!! Is Albania going to take out its Chinese tanks from storage from the 1950's!

Croatia is the only country with some weapons in the region and you think they are going to protect Muslims?

By the way, NATO is a DEFENSIVE alliance of many countries and it was not holding together after the aggressive illegal bombing of Yugoslavia where Greece refused to participate and later both France and Germany reluctance which led to UN resolution 1244 being adopted in addition to Russian pressure on Serbia by the traitor Yeltsin.

So you are saying that only NATO countries have the right to defend themselves, because NATO countries can do no wrong? Serbia has suffered from entirely unprovoked aggression from NATO before, and is right to try to defend itself from it again. NATO countries should disarm: there hasn't been a real reason for NATO to exist since the fall of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact.

Serbia should not play this teenagers game.

Instead, Serbia should entice these countries to spend more and more of ther GDP on weapons
...... while Serbia uses its money to capture more and more market share of products and goods.

Let these neighbors be very well armed and then spend even more to maintain those arms.

Serbia should concentrate only on:

1. Growing its GDP and economically capturing more market share across a variety of goods and services

2. Attracting more and more firms to locate in Serbia

3. Spending money on spies and counter-intellignce for the battle against global terrorism.

Let all those saber rattling banannas choke on their weapons whle Serbs propser economically
