If the travel from Vienna to Belgrade via Budapest is cut from 10+ hours to the half and instead of using horrible old coaches we will use the new Siemens Railjet during the day and new Siemens-made RZD sleeping cars during the night - it's terrific.
If Budapest - Skopje - Saloniki is being cut to be a mere 10 hour travel it's even better.
But it won't be a true high-speed rail, it will be 160-kmh / 100 mph rail link.
The very beautiful rail link along Ibar valley needs to be modernized as well.
Entire Albanian network has to be upgraded and very harsh penalties given for throwing stones at trains. 1 year salary or 1 year jail or 1 year social work. The stone throwing is a plague to be stopped. This is why there is no Montenegrin passenger service to Albania, the rail link physically is there. Passenger trains were promised - but only freight service is running. Podgorica - Tirana should be done with Siemens Desiro or similar Russian DMU-s, whatever is better for the network condition or service.
