You should also read up more on Islam as you will find that Christian, Jewish and Muslims all worship the same God just a diversion in teachings.

Actually that's not true.
Muslims say that there is no God but Allah. You want to explain that?
Also they keep telling us how if they kill infidels Allah will reward them with virgins, heaven or whatever.
God does not require anyone to kill in his name. There are no verses in the Bible sanctioning killing of non believers but you will find those verses in the Koran.
So no, God is not the same as Allah.
Now to the topic. This woman should have worn a scarf and that's it. By going to the extreme she looks like she was mocking Iranian culture. She looks ridiculous. Nobody expected her to wear a burqua, hijab or the black robes. She went too far.

When British Queen visited the Greek Orthodox Church in Jerusalem, she opted to - out of respect - cross herself the traditional Greek Orthodox way: from right to left, rather than the Catholic/Anglican way (from left to right).

When American presidents from Bush Sr. to Obama visit the Western Wall in Jerusalem, they routinely and as a matter of course don Jewish kippah (yarmulke).

Why should the official visit of a Serbian dignitary to an Islamic Republic of Iran follow rules that are any different?

My only gripe was that Mrs. Gojkovic could have opted for a less stringent, more modern variant of the moslem garb, which would leave her some leeway for modernity and Serbian secular values. A black scarf (marama) or a head shawl would have done the job just as fine.

If it's relevant to the topic this article reminds me that 16 years ago me & my family attended a wedding in the city of Halifax located in the province of Nova Scotia between a Hindu man and a Sikh lady and from the looks of things it's considered respectful for even non-Sikhs to be required to wear a turban over their heads (I'm a non Sikh and I was required to wear a turban as well.)

Also if it's still relevant to the topic but I recall that 20 years ago me and the family attending an Islamic wedding or some event pertaining to the wedding held at a masjid in Saint John,New Brunswick where at some point both Muslim & non-Muslim men sat at one end of the prayer room and the opposite end were both Muslim & non-Muslim women and also I recall seeing on t.v. that then U.S. president Bill Clinton visiting Israel and wearing a special cap that Jewish males wear even though he ain't Jewish.

Finally my point of all this is that Serb lady who visited Iran perhaps was only being respectful to Iranian culture or Islam even though she's still a non-Muslim.

So what is wrong with respecting ethical values of a foreign country when we are invited to vist with them? Islamic values, don't we all who are born to the Balkans have some of them? In the culture of ALL people from the Balkan region is there not any traces of Islam in our music, food, costumes, language and most importantly our Blood? Would it of been more appropriate that the Serbian lady wore a revieling miny dress and low cut top showing every thing. Western culture and ethical values, is that what Serbia wants to copy? Islamic values much closer to God than Western Satanic values. So better we try to focus more on the positive values in humanity rather than dividing ourselves for the negitives!

"that is not even a true religious requirement, but more an obscure invention. "

It was invented by the British, they created islamic extremism all over the world just like they created the Ayatollah Chomeini and his fake revolution that put Persia back to the middle ages so it was neutralized.

While I agree that she should not have dressed to that extreme, you turn around and destroy your own argument.
She represents Serbia when she travels and not the Orthodox Church nor Atheists.
If you slam an Islamic state then you have to slam an Orthodox state.
You should also read up more on Islam as you will find that Christian, Jewish and Muslims all worship the same God just a diversion in teachings.
But what you should point out is the fact that if you allow religious extremist to rule the state that is when you develop the intolerance of others.
If wearing just an ordinary scarf would not have satisfied the Iranian govt, then why the hell are Serbs going there to start with?

She should resign.

It is fundamentally wrong to make any alteration of habit in order conform to any Islamic code - particularly one as obnoxious as requiring women to subjugate themselves by wearing something that is not even a true religious requirement, but more an obscure invention.

Personally, I find even the title of the Iranian state to be obnoxious. Why 'Islamic Republic'? They are assuming that Islam should be imposed by the state. Given the certainty I have that God does not exist, I find the title stupid.

Islam, like other religions is a remnant of times when people didn't have an answer to the question of how we came to exist. Spend a few minutes considering the vastness of time in relation to the shortness of time since the invention (by a man) of Islam. Consider topics such as embryology, genetics, paleontology and how they relate to evolution, and you will see how the depth of understanding of these topic contrasts with the flippancy of blind religious faith.

Politically it is wrong for the speaker to show this kind of conformity - it is disrespectful of both Orthodox Serbs (who she represents) and Sebian atheists too (who she also represents).
