A most excellent and surprising post! It is true, the Serbia efforts only caused more abstains. Not votes against the membership. Most countries really do not know the politics of Kosovo and Serbia and just did not want to make a decision and allowed the vote go whichever direction the rest of the votes took it.
But the postponement of the ZSO was an expected event, not due to UNESCO or anything else other than it is very unpopular with the majority of citizens(primarily Albanians but also other non Serbs). It was going to be contested and that is why it was part of the agreement that it would be reviewed by the Constitutional court, something intentionally omitted by the Serb propaganda campaign.
But it is true Serbia's power is wrapped up in one thing Russia, and the moment it becomes more important to Russia to throw its support behind the advancement of Kosovo, you will see Serbia change their stance, as seen with the movement of EULEX into Kosovo.
If you remember Serbia was totally 100% opposed to EULEX right up to the day that equipment and personnel began arriving in Kosovo, Russia had said it would only support EULEX in the UNSC when Serbia did. Suddenly an about face and Serbia welcomed EULEX and Russia voted yes.

But I forgive you, you call yourself Europe's youngest democracy. Though, after more than 10 years, people could expect a more adult behavior.

Kosovo went from total oppression from the ottomans to communist control to total oppression by Serbia to total control by the international community. So democracy is a new concept, and a lot has to be learned.
Throw in the corruption level of all of South Eastern Europe as a standard way of life, the destruction of all infrastructure by Serbia and the closing of schools so you have a huge uneducated public and incredibly high unemployment. Throw into that the high level of hatred and bitterness between the Albanian and Serbian sides. The the fact that the international community has placed safeguards in to force Albanians not to do to Serbs what they did to them(which was necessary)
I think that the progress of Kosovo is remarkable in the 7 years since their declaration of independence which was agreed to be a supervised independence.
You are talking about learning a whole new way of life that is contrary to your emotions.
When you compare to Serbia which has the recognition and the intact infrastructure and educational opportunities in place, you have to actually wonder why the disparity is not greater.

The Count of Kosova

pre 8 godina

The Serb peanut gallery is frantically squealing in unison today, not because of what occurred in the Kosova parliament, but because they realize Serbia violated the Brussels agreement by obstructing Kosova from joining an international organization. In doing so, Serbia has managed to have the door to the EU about to be slammed in its face. Any chance of opening a single chapter leading to EU membership has been lost for the foreseeable future, thanks to Serbia's mean spiritedness. In short, Serbia has shot itself in the foot. This is the true reason the usual suspects are so shrill today. Lastly, notice how similar they are in their rhetoric. If I didn't know better, I would think they are one and the same self righteous individual posing as the many indignant participants

You believe that Serbian propaganda that THEY did it? Funny. It's not up to Serbia, and Serbia cannot even block Kosovo from becoming an UN member. It's not in their power.

No, it's simple because less than 2/3 of the UNESCO members with voting rights voted for Kosovo, not more and not less. And why does it surprise you? It was more or less the same countries that didn't recognize Kosovo's independence, and everyone knows that Kosovo is recognized by 110 out of 193 UN members, which is a bit less less than 2/3. Why Kosovo politicians expected that their UNESCO bid will succeed I don't understand.

P.S: Kosovo refused to implement the signed agreement a while before the UNESCO voting took place. Don't confuse the facts, please, it's not a case of cause and effect.

(Guest, 17 November 2015 16:27)

The largest European ancestry groups in Chicago are the Irish, Germans- Willi Pfaff, then Polish and Italians.

Chicago has the largest Polish population outside of Warsaw and the largest concentration of Italian Americans. Muslims from Bosnia were the first in the United States to incorporate an Islamic Association in Chicago.

They all left their countries of birth, too, just like Serbs.

You need to look at the facts and take your hatred of Serbs and channel it into something positive.

I think it's time for the moderate Albanians in Kosovo-Metohija to speak up and admit that negotiating a successful reintegration into the rest of Serbia would be in the best interest of every ordinary person, regardless of whether they are Albanian or Serb.

Looking at it from the POV of Albanians, reintegration is the way to go.
(Ari Gold, 17 November 2015 16:58)

Moderate Albanians have spoken since 1992 with the voice of the late Ibrahim Rugova whom you Serbs did everything to ignore and humiliate.
Btw if you want to know the results of referendum of 1992 for Kosovo to become an independent is 99.6% for independence. This is the voice of moderate Albanians.

Even though I don't like Kurti or Thaci, I never will advice K-Alb to integrate into a state whose 90% of population are like you and Peggy, people who want to humiliate and consider Albanians second class citizens.
If you want to reintegrate Albanians in Serbia prepare to give them the VETO power and share with them the parliament and half of the ministers or PM himself. Prepare to have the foreign minister, prime minister or defense minister an ethnic Albanian from KLA or LDK.

Albanians in Kosovo are protesting over minority rights given to others, despite the fact that the international community and many of the countries that have supported Kosovo's independence are in support of this. You conveniently forgot to think about that when you decided to wag the finger of morality at others. Others, which I might add are not required by legally binding agreements to provide comprehensive rights to a beleaguered and systematically harassed minority.

What are you doing in Sydney? Lol

Please don't act like you guys forgot how Serbs assassinated their former leaders. Arkan Raznatovic, turned over karadzic and magic for EU accession. Serbia is a hundred year old failed country, let us compare that to a new 2008 country Kosovo.
Do you want me to provide videos of Serbs rioting in 2008? Embassies attacked, forgot that lol. Protesting is a right of citizens to express dissatisfaction, we know Serbs don't know much about democracy, unless the world drops bombs on them. They only understand by force.

Serbs are all over the place, all over western Europe, Chicago Illinois had many Serbs, these Serbs left serbia because? Serbian is so great? Look at the facts before ypu speak about others.

I'd hope Europe's youngest democrats would have seen the illogical hypocrisy in this but then again, there's a reason every international agreement on Kosovo's Serb community needs to be spelled out in descriptive detail.

It is not right that 5% of the population to have VETO power and create another RS in Kosovo.
Also,it is not right that even after Albanians agreed to create ZSO with superpower for Serbs, Serbia did everything to stop Kosovo in UNESCO.

I am not with Albin Kurti, but this agreement is bad and hopefully Constitutionally Court will abolish it.

Before Serbia stopped Kosovo to UNESCO, it was believed that after Albanians signed the ZSO, Serbia would have been easy to them and not blocked them.

After Serbia did everything and manage to stop Albanians to enter in UNESCO,I see nothing wrong when Albanians will scrap a bad agreement for them which in the return they didn't even enter in UNESCO.

And please spare me with that crap that UNESCO has nothing to do with EU integration because we all know that ZSO was a compromise that Serbia wouldn't have block K-Alb to join international organizations.

Perhaps its dawning on many Kosovarians that little beyond Status Quo has been achieved since a so called "indepence of Kosova" in 2008 just as was the case in 1992! Its been patently obvious to the many tens & hundreds of thousands fleeing/escaping this year and for many years recently from this US/EUSSR inspired and self-imposed Kosovarian prison in what remains Serbia's UN recognised sovereign province.

Oh what a tangled web we weave.....

I think it's time for the moderate Albanians in Kosovo-Metohija to speak up and admit that negotiating a successful reintegration into the rest of Serbia would be in the best interest of every ordinary person, regardless of whether they are Albanian or Serb.

...

Otherwise get lost with your fascist ratings!

If your option is to pick between Kurti and the KLA, then your best bet is to go with Vucic. He'd probably continue the welfare system for Albanians in Kosovo-Metohija that was created by Tito and carried on by NATO, even if some would see it as at the expense of everyone else in Serbia.

Looking at it from the POV of Albanians, reintegration is the way to go.

Oh dear, where did you ever get that idea? ZSO is nothing like RS in Bosnia.

And I don't recall ever bringing up UNESCO. But hey, if your rationale is that it's ok to abolish an agreement on minority rights in retaliation for being denied membership in UNESCO, then perhaps you can no longer convincingly act as if you're somehow politically, intellectually, or morally superior to Serbs. At Europe's youngest democrats, your just as petty as they are.

Albanians in Kosovo are protesting over minority rights given to others, despite the fact that the international community and many of the countries that have supported Kosovo's independence are in support of this. And despite the fact that the same Albanians got where they were today because of those bombs.

You conveniently forgot to think about that when you decided to wag the finger of morality at others. Others, which I might add are not required by legally binding agreements to provide comprehensive rights to a beleaguered and systematically harassed minority.

When Serbs protested against Kosovo sovereignty, did you accept that or did you hope ROSU would quash the demonstrations?

Funny guy. It is you who has to learn a lot about democracy. Yes, in a democracy, everyone has the right to protest and do protest marchs, but never by violent means with molotov cocktails and throwing stones. And it is never allowed to do that in the assembly or parliament. No, in normal countries, even demonstrations and protests around the parliament and assembly is banned, for a good reason: To avoid that the mob is influencing politicians and MPs in their decisions, which seems to be a successful way in Kosovo.

But I forgive you, you call yourself Europe's youngest democracy. Though, after more than 10 years, people could expect a more adult behavior.

In a normal country, if MP act like that, they get their immunity revoked and would be in prison. For the 'young Europeans', this behavior seems to be perfectly normal and is tolerated, so it will happen again and again. And not even tolerated, probably Kosovo government will do more to please these violent extremists, like they did with scrapping the Brussels agreements.
