oh dear, i have come to notice that every time Serbia loses a vote, it is always because the decision was political. serbian state officials repeat such mantra all the time. resolution on srebrenica? political. hague and haradinaj? political. nato bombing in 1999? political and geo-strategic. one wonders what it is that serbia does to always get political decisions against it. as for having the worlds largest countries on your side, good for you, you take comfort in that. Kosovo will take its application to the main body. don't forget to send thank you cards to the worlds largest countries as a token of appreciation ...it'd only be polite

it is just too obvious, Serbia is not a western country, and certainly doesn't want to belong to the free western world. The consequence should be to simply let them go, and play with their hero, Hitler-Putin. Freez all finincial support, no more assistance whatsoever for this neo-nazi state, no more talks about a EU membership, which will never, ever happen to a country like present day Serbia anyway. Funny I think the only thing that preserves the 'Kosovo cultural heritage' (read: century old Serbian orthodox churches and monasteries) is the presence of KFOR - but even they have proven to be unable to masses of the Albanian mob, incited by Pristina lies and hate speech, during the March pogroms.

No doubt about it. Plus, those were the Germans in Prizren who turned and ran from the mob as opposed to the Italians in Decani and Pec who pointed their guns at the mob. But remember that Kosovo wants to put on a happy face for the First World, even if it's only for show. Church destruction has fallen out of favor since things like the March 2004 riots could only have been orchestrated by leaders in Pristina. Every time a Serb community is harassed and targeted, an international official mandates more minority rights for the Serbs. The 2004 riots basically set the stage for Serbian protection. The attempts at taking over the north created the conditions for ZSO. At this point, Albanians can't afford to be any more destructive, otherwise they'd lose more leverage to the dozens of agreements already hamstringing them.

Dacic gives the UN more credit than it deserves. Nobody really believes that Pristina is fit to be in UNESCO. Giving protective rights for Serbian churches to Albanians is an idle, sadistic performance.

Yes, and I'd rather have the "Western" countries be behind Kosovo than non-Western since at the very least these Western countries have proven time and again they're not supporting any Albanian nationalist aspirations but rather trying to get this basket-case of a territory to achieve some degree of civilization. Every time a "Western" country supports Kosovo it indirectly aids and empowers Kosovo's Serb community far more than what Belgrade can do, so if Kosovo does join UNESCO, I'm fairly sure they'll be politely told to start working to preserve Kosovo's cultural heritage instead of destroying it, desecrating it, or transforming it beyond recognition. Plus, seeing as how many of Kosovo's most prized landmarks are already registered with UNESCO, not to mention what's already codified as off limits in the Ahtisaari Plan as Serbia's, Hash and the gang are somewhat limited in what they can claim are their's. Juxtaposse this with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states providing support, and Europe's youngest democrats wouldn't be forced to adhere to even half of the restrictions and laws the First World holds them to.

How many times have Serb politicians flown to Russia and hiked their skirt to beg for help?
Remember a few years back the Serbs in Kosovo asked Russia to make them Russian citizens so they could be "protected" and the answer was a couple of truckloads of expired tuna and blankets.
Russia can hold their vote and create total inaction in the UNSC on any subject it wants, but as far as doing anything to change the scene in Serbia/Kosovo it has proven as ineffective as a man suffering from ED in a brothel. All talk and no substance.
