Likening Serbia to Iran is really ridiculous and you know it. Stop being a drama queen.
(Peggy, 19 October 2015 00:49)
Not so ridiculous as you would like. What other modern country consults the head of the church before making decisions of the state. Also what other countries other than Iran and Serbia have state sponsored terrorism "in the name of God"?

And why should he not speak of politics?

Free speech is a human right.

Everyone's political positions should be known. His too.

Or are some people afraid of his power to influence the referendum vote (should a referendum even take place)?

And he should have power to influence it. Does he not represent a body with a vested interest in the discussions?
(factman, 16 October 2015 14:47)

Of course he can speak of politics and express his political positions, but he presented them as "The position of the Church", according to the news story. Did he consult God about that?! How about those members of the Church that don't share his position?! Not to mention that such statements make the Curch a political organization and the Church then can't complain when people treat it as a political organization and not a religious one.

Because he is a religious leader. On paper there's a separation of church and state in Serbia, is there not? Do you see Vucic, Dacic, Nikolic, Tadic etc. telling him how to hold mass?
====================================
You really are clutching at straws now.
He is not telling the government what to do. He was most likely asked for his opinion and that's all. As a responsible government they should consult various bodies before making decisions and the church is one of them, especially on the matter of Kosovo because that's where a lot of Serbian important religious heritage are.
Who else but the church to give an expert opinion on that?

Ture, he does have the right to an opinion and to voice it, however, it seems that Serbia most resembles the culture of Iran, whose politics are guided by the religious leaders and not the people. If that is the society you want go for it, but look how that plays out in Iran.

Because he is a religious leader. On paper there's a separation of church and state in Serbia, is there not? Do you see Vucic, Dacic, Nikolic, Tadic etc. telling him how to hold mass? The reason why church and state are separated is to avoid theocracies, otherwise you have countries like Iran, or to some point Saudi Arabia where women were beaten because they drove. He can have a political opinion but as a religious figure he can express his personal opinions when he votes. If he speaks in public in the name of the church on political issues/decisions then he puts the church at risk, because now the church is viewed as just another political institution, and nobody is obligated to respect political institutions, even religious people. There's more of a tendency to overcome the power of a political institution compared to respecting what others may view as holy (their church). This guy is doing a disservice to the church and to the separation of church and state. It's quite easy to see this if you're not religious. Mythology has no hold on you.

Can you pose the following question so we can gauge how people feel about Kosovo/a joining UNESCO? Or should it? To my understanding: even if it were to join the sites that have been recognized by UNESCO will always be protected even after all the people that are presently alive will pass on. The church has full control and authority over the sites and nothing will change. And the Albanians can't claim these sites were or are part of Albanian history or culture.

Another poll question can be on Ch. 35 or Kosovo/a. Should Serbia press on with joining the EU or should Serbia move forward as it seems that Kosovo/a will be a thorn in the process? Or whatever question you feel is suitable to your audience.

The migrant poll seems so old now and I'd like to see what people think. Or should a referendum be placed to the general population about Kosovo/a? This way the politicians are off the hook for history books. Just a thought! Hope this goes up the chain of command to a decision maker. Thanks.

UNESCO, did he say something about Kosovo's UNESCO membership. He is the first who should speak out, the most interested party, LOL. This is how you know Serb politicians are just playing theater for the Serb audience.
