I have no idea where Davenport lives but it’s not in Europe or planet Earth. The EU is in a serious economic situation where even Germany is showing signs of financial problems and it will take years to recover. On top there are thousands of refugees pouring into the EU and all wanting to go Germany, Switzerland or Sweden where the social security benefits are great. You can work out the rest.
On the issue of the human development index, I’d treat this with a lot of scepticism as the 2014 report has Croatia on 47 and Serbia on 77. It’s more of western BS.
