Orban: If fence is unpopular, we'll let migrants pass

Hungary will either protect its "green border" with fences - or, "if this option is not so popular," it could let migrants travel to Austria and Germany.

Peggy: Ironically Mr Orban is saying that his country will ACCEPT illegal migration. Allowing undocumented nationals, as many of these migrants are, to move freely through the country in order to push them over the border to another country is contrary to Hungary's own laws. The two options are keep them out or deal with them. As for whether or not a person is a genuine asylum seeker or not, there is a laid down process for this under the 1951 Convention to which Hungary is a signatory. Each case must be judged on its own merits other than where one person is the dependant of another in which case the decision made for the head of the household applies to all people covered by the claim.

We'll stop them entering or let them pass. What about actually dealing with the migrants and helping them in accordance with obligations under signed treaties and conventions?

That only applies to genuine refugees and not illegal migrants. Which treaty says that you have to let anyone who wants to come into your country? Most of these country hopping people are NOT refugees so which treaty forces a sovereign country to accept uncontrolled migration?
Hungary says that all countries should contribute. Why? Only a few countries have caused this mess and obviously thought they would profit in some way so they are the only countries obligated to sort this out now?
It's like saying only a few of us will get the spoils but all of us should sacrifice. WRONG, WRONG WRONG.

Merkel have messed up and now even German cannot cope with those people. Go to France or Brussels or even Antwerp. It`s like walking in Africa or Middle East. There are many cuts to health care, educations, old people support etc. but there are always money for wars and people who enter EU illegally to fight and demand to open border. Who are they? They even dare to protest and shout "Freedom and Let us stay?" Common!!! Human Rights? Protect own people first and those in needs, not problem makers.
I don`t have anything against anyone, but when you want to live in the country who take away from own citizens to give to you, then shut up and behave or out!!!! Bravo Hungarian Prime Minister, the only in EU with guts. Hungarian protect borders, but everyone dislike this. Migrants give them 2h ultimatum to take it down. WTF? Merkel breaks EU principal rules about external border protection, she invited them and now demand others to share? Children are the ones who suffer the most as many of them are not aware what`s going on. These days Syrian passport gives you rights to stay within EU, get help (cash), free healthcare, education, apartment and rights to bring 100s of your family members if they wish to come. Everyone get free pass after all, while taken from own people.
See link below. refugees demand €2000 a month or they won`t eat.

@ned: signed treaties and conventions? Long forgotten... Turkey, then Greece (EU)... Mind you, if you want it so bad, why is Germany (and France, Sweden and others) not arranging flights to pick these migrants out of harm's way directly from Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan? A flight ticket is so much cheaper than what these people pay for being smuggled and it would save them lots of hassle... Then all the treaties would be suddenly reinstated.

Is it wrong to say that Germany and Austria have reimposed border controls?

By the way, Hungary has ZERO obligations towards these people. On the contrary, it is them who enter the country illegally. Remember, there is a legal way to ask for asylum but they choose to circumvent that legal way.

Why should countries do the right thing when the refugees are doing the wrong thing by transiting through countries illegally?
Dito.

Hungary is the biggest receiver of EU subsidies. What away to take Germany. Germans know that Milosevic would have never done this.

@ned. No idea when anyone would vote you down. Too many trolls on this site spreading their propaganda. You are right. Are these the European values that they have touted for years? Easy to agree on sanctions, easy to agree on bombing, easy to agree on manipulating and replacing governments...but back off just one second if you think they actually care about human beings. These people are nothing but economic migrants, but that doesn't give you a right to treat them like garbage.
