So, according to the headline, 45 people turned up to this pride event but there were 1000 police guarding it. The city needs to decide whether such costs are justified for an event that attracts nearly no Serbs. There is no interest and as can be seen, it was mainly westerners parading down the road.
Yes, that's correct, many city blocks closed for hours and a thousand police just so a handful of people (mainly westerners) can walk down a street alone, with no-one supporting them. Happily brought to you by the EU!

I'm glad the parade finally took place; I'm not glad that it had to take place with such a heavy Police presence. It is really amazing that such an event has taken place in many countries for decades now, but here in Belgrade it is seen by many Serbs to be some kind of moral threat to society. The true threat to Serbia is the high level of intolerance toward Gays since it makes us look like a primitive bunch of Cetniks. So as I took my normal route through Belgrade yesterday, I find that the streets are closed to traffic. Police dressed in riot gear everywhere so I thought there must be some protest or something. As I finally drive around the multiple city blocks that are closed and get to the Slavija roundabout, I saw militarised police vehicles everywhere and as I drive under Gazella bridge, I see a traffic policeman and ask why so many police today. He replied by telling me the Gay parade was on.
So multiple blocks closed for sever hours and hundreds of police everywhere so a pride parade of a handful of people can take place. Again, a handful of mainly westerners. Talk about overkill for such a small event. Even Seselj gets many more people at his protests.
What's going on? Why close so many blocks and inconvenience so much of Belgrade, where interest for such an event is next to zero. The cost would have been huge for a city scraping through financially. This is a disgrace and next year should be held somewhere remote or not held at all, so it doesn't inconvenience so many people and doesn't require so many resources.
