I find this sort of candor and understanding of the effects of such behaviour to be quite refreshing. It signifies to me that he understands that character assassination is a serious thing, and that if one is to have any chance at being treated fairly it ought only happen with evidence and a minimum of gossip, instead of besmirching someone and basically ruining their reputation. Everyone deserves a fair investigation.:

""I can't say I like Ivica Dacic - I don't hate him, either, I have no reason, why would I like him, but I don't like this happening to anyone. This is not an attack on him because of some demimonde, immorality, this is something a serious state should do, a police investigation, it is not for the public. Once it leaks to the public, a man is already condemned. Now the whole Serbia is probably thinking, 'well, look at that'," Nikolic has been quoted as saying. "

I am surprised that Nikolic ventured into the area of his personal feelings about Dacic as this seems completely irrelevant to the matter at hand. I do, however, like to see someone standing up to the media even if it is a politician on the receiving end. I am a great believer in evidence and justice and although it is clear that meetings took place, until someone has proof that wrongdoing occurred then Mr Dacic is not guilty. I hope that in the future, should a political opponent find him or herself in the same position, that Ivica will remember the support he has received from Nikolic.
