The Croatian gov't. will no doubt send out an army of police personnel to find the Serb who burned the Croatian flag (if a Serb did it at all). But they still can't seem to find any of the war criminals who butchered 2,000 Serbs, mostly civilians during Operation Storm 20 years ago. Clearly a case of misguided principals for the EU's newest member.

I wonder if they will work as hard as they worked when they couldn't find anyone responsible for damaging signs ins Cyrillic.

@ Jugoslavia:

What you discussed regarding the Croatian flag being put to bad use that could be like American white supremacists utilizing the confederate flag to symbolize racial supremacy however at least some white Americans deny the flag symbolizes white supremacy but it instead symbolizes or represents southern pride (referring to southern U.S. states)yet after the recent shooting deaths of black church attendees (or whatever you call them) by a young white supremacist gunman in the U.S. state of South Carolina there's been an outcry in that state at least to remove the confederate flag from public display and also some stores in America are said to be discontinuing the sale of confederate flags however I might have heard that these flags can be or still be purchased on e-bay.

"The Croatian fascist movement did the same with the checkered flag. Yeah the U is also part of it, but what Croatians did with the checkered flag was take something that was part of their heritage, and turned into an evil thing just like the Nazis did. If you were in those camps in Croatia, you would probably look at the checkered flag in that way."

The checkerboard represented the Croatian Oblasts, Banovina's and the Kingdom of Yugoslav insignia in recent history up to 1939. Tito outlawed both the Croatian Checkerboard and the Serbian double Eagles, in hindsight, looks like he may have been right.

The Swastika is not a historical German symbol.

Where was Ari Gold on the night in question? Perhaps returning from the beautiful Adriatic Sea and on his way back to the motherland, decided to incite some hatred and violence towards his neighbors. Typical.

@Factman:

I can relate to what you're mentioning because I saw either on t.v. or on-line where I believe that at one time (at least in the 1960s) in United States that it was considered a criminal offense to burn the 'Star Spangled Banner'( the name of the American flag as you probably know just like the British flag's name is 'Union Jack')so anyhow and either way even if flag burning is inappropriate and I suppose in some cases it's unpatriotic shouldn't mean that the matter be treated as a crime. Personally if I witnessed in real life or saw a video or a photo of someone (even a Canadian)setting the Canadian flag ablaze that personally I may regard it as an insult but overall I agree that legal action may generally be unwarranted against the offender.

This is proof CROATIA is still not completely free of contaminants.

Appropriate response to defend Croatia's honor is expected.

@ Jugoslavija, unfortunately the checkerboard has become a symbol of fascism like the Nazi flag. Don't forget that the Nazi symbol used to have a very positive meaning and was used throughout history. It's sacred and auspicious in Hinduism and some other religions. It was looked at as a lucky charm, for well being. That's probably why the Nazi movement adopted that flag, and because of them it is now looked at in the worst way. The Croatian fascist movement did the same with the checkered flag. Yeah the U is also part of it, but what Croatians did with the checkered flag was take something that was part of their heritage, and turned into an evil thing just like the Nazis did. The current Croatian flag is NOT fascist; it is the Croatian symbol of democracy and has been used since the Kingdom of King Tomislav, the symbol under King Tvrtko as well as various Bosnian and Herzegovina dynasties. The symbol was part of the Sabor under the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the symbol under the Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes when Yugoslavia was created.

The Croatian fascist symbol is the U as part of the checkerboard. The Ustashe did use the checkerboard which ignites the Nazi Ustashe Genocide that occurred in Yugoslavia between 1941-1945.

The Checkerboard is not a symbol of fascism like the Nazi Swastika or Croatian "U".

Funny article. So a random flag burning at night, without any observers, has the same value as a flag burning by a Serbian extremist politician under the eye of the Serbian police, without any action to impede or stop him?

Well it's about that time again, last Serbian holocast in Croatia twenty years ago and now time for another! How many Serbian people left in the territory now called Croatia? It's all legal and correct, the USA, England and Germany endorses it and the Vatican blesses it! Remember the goal is extermination and eradication of all Christian Eastern Orthodox Slavic people in the Balkans! Lets see how many Serbian heads will roll for a couple of burnt Croatian flags? Maybe also NATO ( Nazi Alliance Terrorist Organization ) will be called in to conduct some punative air strikes on Beograd!
