"But Serbia is a failed state; it can't even lift up itself, let alone the region!"
(icj1, 15 July 2015 01:53)

If you consider Serbia a failed state, how will you call Kosovo then? A failed pseudo-state?
(Comm. Parrisson, 15 July 2015 16:47)

Well, according to the most patriotic of Serbs, the state of Kosovo does not even exist, so not sure what you are referring to lol In addition, it's a bit humiliating to set Kosovo as the standard for Serbia, isn't it?

Those Serbs visiting are not SErbs living in Kosovo, and they come through on buses yelling obscenities and making insulting gestures as they ride through before being stoned.
The cemetaries are like any you find throughout the world that has been abandoned and neglected and left to the elements, only in Kosovo it is considered a war crime.
The vandalized and robbed homes of Serbs not at home--these are houses that have been built and furnished by the international community and given to Serbs to return to Kosovo, only to have them accept them remove anything of value and go back to Serbia. Then at some time a neighbor will claim it was broken into and vandalized and robbed, so the Serbians living in Serbia can claim compensation.

If you consider Serbia a failed state, how will you call Kosovo then? A failed pseudo-state? I have a good name for it, created by a high ranking official of the German secret service: "Kosovo is the first mafia state* on European soil."

*mafia state= not a state where influential mafia groups exist, this would be not unique to Kosovo. It is a state which is governed by mafia leaders, where the parties can be seen as the political wings of the several mafia groups.

Zoran, The UK is not planning to leave the EU. The referendum you are talking about is one Political party's attempt to placate its smaller right wing. Thankfully when the referendum comes the British people will save this stupid Government from doing harm to jobs and a peaceful future in Europe. Let hope those in political positions around the Balkans recognise their future also lies in the family of European nations.

It is only natural that this happen. Larger economies lift up regions around them and are regional engines of growth.
(factman, 14 July 2015 15:30)

Yeah, sure! We've seen how Greece, which has an economy even larger than Serbia's is lifting up the region!!! Mate, not sure how you come up with the trash that you write... Your only idiotic argument to support your point is that larger is better :)

Larger economies might lift up the regions they are part of IF those economies are well managed. But Serbia is a failed state; it can't even lift up itself, let alone the region!

A new day,

I agree. It takes time for others to gain that trust back.

But it will come (and signals of it are already out there).

The recent nationalistic past was only an interlude in Serbia's general history. In next century's history books it will be written about in half a page.

The business of business....is business. It is quickly to forgive if it can get a return on its dollar.

It is not light years away. Each month brings fresh news of its ascent (while other areas of the region are stuck in remedial discussion and politics).

Additionally, it need not recognize K to grow an economy. That is a canard.

In fact the entire recognition of K as a pre-condition to EU membership is a canard. If we have seen anything this past week, it is that the countries of Europe have no real interest in absorbing the primitive economies of the Balkans.

The day of EU salvation will never come. It is a fairy tale told to the people of the Balkans to placate them. The people of the Balkans are unable to compete at the level required to maintain EU membership.

And that is why you need Serbia more than you know. There is no area/ territory/ country in the world where a smaller entity can live in antagonized from its larger more powerful neighbor. Especially when that smaller entity has almost no economic potential of its own.

Nothing personal, just business.

Its all about ROI. We Americans want return on Investment.

Yes, Thaci said the same, but he forgets to mention the 'right' of Serbs to get stoned when going to Kosovo for visiting vandalized cemeteries, the 'right' to get churches decorated with graffity, the right to get their homes vandalized and robbed when not at home, and some more rights which are exclusive to the Serbs in Kosovo.

Or do you mean the rights mentioned in the 'Kosova constitution' (written by the then US ambassador in Pristina) which are not worth the paper they are written on?

I think that Pristina should continue to block Serbia's progress towards the EU. At a time when the UK is seriously making preparations for a referendum to exit the EU, those thinking of joining this broken union must only be doing so by force. Even Iceland withdrew its candidacy. The EU is a failure and should not have become more than a trading block.

factman aka Ari Gold,
Fantasy can not be A substitute for reality. Your dreams of an economically strong Serbia are light years away from fruition. Serbia must first recognize Kosova, as EU representatives have been telling you for years, only then will Serbia be thrown an economic bone. However, membership to the EU for Serbia has many hurdles ahead of it. Serbia, above all, needs at least two generations to become civilized enough to be able to normalize relations with her neighbors. Getting rid of the Chetnik animal skins, as a substitution for modern clothing, would be a good start.

Most of what you say is true or potentially true, you do overstate Serbia's ease on IMF funding. Serbia has the POTENTIAL to be a powerhouse for southeastern Europe not only the Balkans. But no one has a sense of trust in the leadership of Serbia, while they praise them as they are better than anything in the recent past, there is the tendency to keep Serbia on the short leash, and the rug can be jerked right out from under Serbia at any time should it revert back to its nationalistic oppressive past.

And believe me, the majority of German politicians are ready to have their arses kissed by their Albanian lapdogs. Germany has a lot to answer for in this world. Not content with starting two world wars and numerous other regional wars which they have propagated, they are intent on dominating Europe. Kosovo (and Albania) fit perfectly into their plans and continue to be Berlin's favourites (along with their other puppets, the Croats).

It is a normal and natural phenomenon that the largest populations/ economies get the most respect by the EU. After all, the EU is an economic union.

As Serbia goes through its rough patches and corrects its economy, Its position at top of the non-EU CEFTA region is further cemented into place each day (at the expense of others). This is a normal business dynamic.

Merkel brought attention to this during her visit and even brought a German firm locating to Serbia.

It is only natural that this happen. Larger economies lift up regions around them and are regional engines of growth. Other, more established economies seek to capitalize on this because investments are cheap and have potential for a higher % of ROI.

Serbia need only continue along its econmic reform path and everything else will take care of itself. it is the perfectly located country of the Balkans. Three geographic corridors run through its capital (and thats why Tesla Airport has so quickly gained the traction it has). This naturally attracts foreign businesses to re-locate where expenses will be minimized and customers quickly served.

Having been to Kosovo multiple times, those rights you think Serbs have are supported by international pressure. Serbs in northern Kosovo largely control their own fate and Serbs in the center and south are given most of those rights by the Ahtissari Plan. Neither of these privileges comes from Albanian generosity. Those areas of Kosovo not covered by the above see Serbs routinely harassed and threatened by the local Albanian yokels.

The territory of Serbia can serve all of the Balkan peoples within a day.

It is not very difficult for Serbia to arrange IMF funds when it allocates it toward Infrastructure and corridor work.

Economics trumps all.

Business is king.

The economies of Europe want ROI, not talk of the past.

A new day,

I am not Ari Gold.

I am Factman

You've made a lot of accusations against the Serbs here. Do you have anything to substantiate that with?

Most of what you say is true or potentially true, you do overstate Serbia's ease on IMF funding. Serbia has the POTENTIAL to be a powerhouse for southeastern Europe not only the Balkans. But no one has a sense of trust in the leadership of Serbia, while they praise them as they are better than anything in the recent past, there is the tendency to keep Serbia on the short leash, and the rug can be jerked right out from under Serbia at any time should it revert back to its nationalistic oppressive past.

Well, according to the most patriotic of Serbs, the state of Kosovo does not even exist, so not sure what you are referring to lol In addition, it's a bit humiliating to set Kosovo as the standard for Serbia, isn't it?
