"The British daily Guardian writes that "new research reveals Britain and the U.S. knew six weeks before the massacre in Srebrenica that enclave would fall.""

Yeah, that it would fall into the hands of the Serbian army... where is the problem? The Serbian army was not made up of monsters, was it?!

Serbs were blamed for what was PREPARED by the government in Sarajevo and the international community.

(ida, 6 July 2015 21:29)

Oh no, they blamed the Serbs again? How dare they blame the eternally innocent Serbs for the simultaneous suicides of 8000 Bosnians? Didn't they read all of the suicide notes? There were thousands of them.

I see that the B92 moderators were offended by my original comment, which was not posted. Well, no offense intended on my part.

Let my try this way: the Guardian piece offers nothing new. Some have been saying for years that Srebrenica was abandoned in order to facilitate an end to the war. However, just because the UN and NATO chose not defend it with additional troops or air support does not mean that they knowingly handed over the enclave for mass slaughter. There were other options available to Mladic: he had fuel, buses...why not transport them to places where they couldn't do the VRS any harm? No, this didn't have to happen, and I think that if anything, the Guardian piece reminds the world of just how awful some of these Balkan actors were.

One additional thought: the article mentions CIA satellite imagery of the killing fields. Why would Clinton have enabled the Serbs to commit genocide knowing that US intelligence would be spying on the whole affair? His entire presidency was embroiled in bitter partisan warfare with Republicans, who would have been all too happy to use that imagery as fodder in their well-publicized campaign to discredit him - and evict him from the White House in the 1996 race. By the way, that satellite imagery sure seems pretty damning for the Serbs - sorry Ida! These men and boys who were killed were not soldiers in "running battles". Neither were they "ambushed", as someone else was telling me last week.

@Joe A:

Just thought you should know that statement you typed about Britain,France and U.S. not coming to the aid of their allies would be like, according to some conspiracy theorists, that in the 2nd World War British prime minister Winston Churchill had foreseen or had knowledge in advance that Japan made plans to attack Pearl Harbor(which many know forced the U.S. to give up its neutrality status and therefore enter the war)but did not bother to inform U.S. president Franklin Roosevelt and the theory may be because Britain was desperate for the U.S. to enter the war as its ally in order to vanquish the Axis Powers at least to vanquish Germany & Japan so if the U.S. received a warning about Japan's plans that it could mean that they could successfully thwart off a Japanese aerial assault against Pearl Harbor but however refuse to fight off other Axis Powers. However I believe I read online that there's no evidence that Churchill had any knowledge of Japan's sneak attack or intended sneak attack against the American Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor.

It is not a white wash attempt. It is about establishing the facts. Dutchbat and the Dutch government asked 9 times for air support even though this represented a risk to them. They were denied and for a long time the ministers of the Dutch government at that time wondered why. The defense minister at that time recently said that air support would have stopped the Serb attack. But the US, the UK and France had decided already in May of that year not to supply air support and did not notify their allies about it. So there you are, trying to stop a Serbian attack on Srebrenica thinking that your allies will come to the rescue but they abandon you. Some friends.

Srebrenica was an ARRANGED fall.

It was the UN which ordered the huge Muslim army out the day before. The Srebrenica army's own brigade commanders, along with the UN ordered the soldiers off their positions - and their positions were "strong" and "all around" Srebrenica.

The Muslims' own army in Srebrenica was MUCH LARGER than the Serb forces and in the advantageous "defensive position".

The army was cleared out to ALLOW the Serbs to drive in unopposed.

The army WALKED to Tuzla and started arriving one week after the fall. Some died in RUNNING BATTLES, as they had a large amount of Serb-held territory to trek through.

The Muslims also killed a Dutch soldier the day before the fall when both forces were leaving their positions.

The Serbs never had a plan to attack - Serbs were just holding their ground.

Serbs were INFORMED that the army left and that is why they drove into Srebrenica - a TRAP.

Serbs were blamed for what was PREPARED by the government in Sarajevo and the international community.
The top commanders, such as Naser Oric, had helicoptered out of Srebrenica several weeks before.
Naser Oric was in Tuzla during the fall. He and other commanders never even bothered coming back.

"Last week Dutch journalists presented evidence (from the Clinton library) that there was a secret deal between the US, the UK and France to withhold air support in case Srebrenica was attacked. Dutchbat stationed there and the Dutch government asked 9 times for air support but were denied (the Dutch government was not informed of the deal)."

Members of the Dutch UN forces told it long ago that they asked for supply which was denied. And it was especially Serb-friend France which didn't want massive bombing of the Serb troops and military.

Nevertheless, responsible for the mass murders and executions is alone Mladic, as the general who ordered the killing. If he got orders from Milosevic or Karadzic is not sure.

Sorry, it's just a bad attempt to whitewash Serbs from their crimes.

P.S: Imagine the allied HAD sent air support which would have bombed. Then the very same Serbs would shout out loud, like they did when Serbia was bombed for stopping its war crimes committed by military and paramilitary in Kosovo.

Wrong title from the Guardian. They abandoned Srebrenica to the murderer Bosnian Serb forces. Saying "Its fate" is just too abstract.

What an embarrasment Clinton was to the US.

From his wanton sexual escapades in the actual Oval Office -- to his foolish repeal of Glass Steagal -- to his disastrous Community Reinvestment Act -- to his mindless foreign policy, most problems we Americans have faced these past 15 years are outcomes of his vision.

I am not surprised by the below. Sad really.

Lets hope the whole truth is released. As we can see, the West have covered up much of their crimes in the region. Let them admit that Clinton told Izetbegovic that 5000 must die in Srebrenica for intervention. Let them admit the crimes of Oric and that Srebrenica was their planned sacrifice for an independent BiH.

if it's true that France,Great Britain & United States left Srbrenica to its fate than that's terrible. For what it's worth at least Radovan Karadzic who is alleged to be responsible or one of those responsible for the Srbrenica massacre is behind bars at The Hague detention unit and if Hague officials decide to release him without a legitimate reason than that would be an insult to his victims.
