Nazi hunter: Comparing Srebrenica and Holocaust is "absurd"

Factman or rather man of many false facts:

Visit the official ICTY website:
http://www.icty.org/sid/322

and scroll down to Bosnia and you will find the following quote:

"The single worst atrocity of the war occurred in the summer of 1995 when the Bosnian town of Srebrenica, a UN-declared safe area, came under attack by forces lead by the Bosnian Serb commander Ratko Mladić. During a few days in early July, more than 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were executed by Serb forces in an act of genocide. The rest of the town’s women and children were driven out."

Now care to revise your false and misleading statement:

8,000 were not executed.

Nowhere, not even in the ICTY trials does it say this.

Approximately 50% of this number were killed in a forest firefight where they were surrounded. One sided fight? Yes. Genocide? No.

Reader,

8,000 were not executed.

Nowhere, not even in the ICTY trials does it say this.

Approximately 50% of this number were killed in a forest firefight where they were surrounded. One sided fight? Yes. Genocide? No. They were armed combatants fleeing Mladic's "payback" for gruesome rampages against Serb civilains around Stebrenica. Nasty? Yes. Genocide? No.

Approximately 20% of this number may not even have existed. Its unknown.

8000 people were killed in 3 days. If one stops for a moment and thinks about the psyche of who can do that, of the kind of people that can go on for three days just killing and killing and killing, it should be clear that, had they had the means to do it on an industrial scale, like Nazi Germany during WWII, they would not have hesitated. In fact, the gas chambers of WWII were built only to make the killing more efficient because the troops of the Nazi Eisatzengruppen that were doing the killing in eastern Europe at the beginning of the war (with bullets and other sadistic means, exactly like in Srebrenica) got tired and sick of the blood and gore after the first million kills.

About the director of the Wiesenthal center, I understand his perspective. Nothing can be compared with the holocaust. And he says so himself when he says that even Rwanda was different. And I agree with him. But nobody is comparing Srebrenica with the holocaust (unless the Politika journalists asked him that kind of question on purpose). They were both genocides, though. On different scales.

The ICTY did not rule that 8000 were 'executed' - unfortunately something which more and more are repeating in the hope that it is true. Please feel free to prove me wrong by posting from the official, ICTY text. You won't find it though. Deuteche Welle repeated this lie recently too in one of their pieces, but that's journalists who can't be bothered to do the basics of their own job.

Most of them were soldiers or of military age (that fits the US definition of 'enemy combatant') and soldiers of the ArBiH as is recognized by the head of the missing persons and book of the dead project in Sarajevo, Mirsad Tokaca.

The ICTY proved and provided no evidence of 'intent' - it was inferred and based on hearsay and third hand opinion instead. The ICJ did not find the same as the ICTY either.

They were men of military age, clearly not women or children.

Go read the Krstic ruling for yourselves. The second later ruling only confirmed the first one. It did not look in to the so-called evidence again in any detail at all.

The bar was set so low that the judges only had to have one drink to go over it. General legal opinion after the ruling neither agreed wholly or fully with the judgement.

And some still want to compare this to the Holocaust, the Armenian genocide, Rwanda and others. Who needs facts when only opinions and feelings count in these fluffy liberal days?

a New day

pre 8 godina

Yes, and the ICJ ruled it was a genocide. Without a doubt the 8.000 executed Bosnians are another scale than 800.000 murdered people in Ruanda, or the 5-6 millions victims of the holocaust, but still calling the biggest massacre in Europe after WW2 a 'crime' (like Nikolic does) is downplaying and ignoring the ethnically motivated reasons, which makes it a genocide.
(Comm. Parrisson, 18 June 2015 11:56)
While I disagree with most of what you put on here, I think you hit the nail on the head here. It is not the numbers, and I really do not think whatever name is given to it is important.
The fact is it was an attempt to cleanse an ethnic group from the area, it was a horrendous crime, and its memory should be preserved to prevent it ever recurring again.
People have to remember that the Holocaust took years to work up to and then happened over 5 years. The fear which I think is very real was that Srebrenica was only the beginning!

Illuminate the tragic events that occurred across former Yugoslavia should not be utilised to point fingers and demonise one peoples in a civil war and do we really wish to bring this before UN while thus diminishing the true meaning and tragedy of genocide.
