Even if Russia minds, it's not their decision and they can't do anything about it. Montenegro is an independent and sovereign country that doesn't take orders from Moscow or Belgrade anymore.

But it does from US, EU and NATO.
Yes, very independent. No gain for a betrayal.

I once heard words МАДАМ, МЫ ВАШУ ПОПУ В КАРТЫ ПРОИГРАЛИ. The English for it is MADAME WE HAVE LOST YOUR ASS IN A CARD PLAY. What I mean is that Russia has got a Foreign Ministry of it own to tell the world what is good for us and what is bad. In any case NATO exists mostly as a anti-Russian tool and sooner or later some elements of the infrastructure can be deployed in Montenegro. Of course such elements will immediately become targets for the Russian missiles. Thus this almost friendly to us people may suffer severely. Before the last football match I believed that Montenegrins are as friendly as the Serbs but now I doubt it very much. So with this ruling class one can expect them join NATO rather soon. Then they will suck not only the Albanians.

Walter, sharing a border with Russia is not the only reason one should not join NATO. It's a matter of alliances. Would you join someone who not long ago has given you a good bashing and is threatening your bigger brother? Does loyalty to your ally mean nothing to you?
Why on earth would you join someone who has absolutely no respect for you, means to enslave you and ready to attack you if you get out of line? This is not an ally. On the other hand Russia has always been an ally and will continue to be so.
if Montenegro joins NATO and Serbia needs to be "put in her place again" do you think that Montenegro will abstain from being part of the force or do you think they will supply a base from where NATO planes can attack? So, in other words, Montenegro is very willing to be part of the force going against Russia and Serbia. How low they've sunk.

Walter. I'm 17 years old and I was born, soon before the nato bombings. My parents one year later, took part in the demosntrations again milosevic, because they thought that looking to the west was better for us.
I have lived the 80% of my life in a west focused Serbia (Obviously, I was very little when milosevic's regime fell apart), till recently, I also thought that looking to the west was the best for Serbia, I didn't want to see the reality, but in fact, life has not changed. The problems of people are the same and very few things have improoved. I understand that what Milosevic did was horrible (That goes without saying), and I totally condemn it, but when I see, in websites like these, users than laugh about our situation, when not openly threatening us, It's natural to have second thoughts about where our country must be.
For all those reasons, with time, I realised that my parents were wrong when they thought that looking to the west was the best option.
15 years have passed and time is running out for EU to show how good is. If the situation goes like this, people will lose their patience and they will start looking to other places. Many in this website think that we must recognise Kosovo, but that depends on the future generations, not mine because it has been a painful lose.
Form outside is difficult to understand it. You have to live here if you want to know what actually is going on.

I hope the Montenegrins get what they deserve. They betrayed their own kind in the name of terrorism. Here's where I side with the Albos, go and create your Greater Albania, take the whole of Montenegro!!! I used to believe it was only the corrupt politicians, but then again, who voted them in? In addition, you can't say that it was the Albo vote that tipped the scale, because they are not enough in comparison to the non-Albos.

Serbia would not have a better reputation, becuase NATO no longer enjoys a good reputation. It is constantly waging war and it is despised by more than half of the planet. Serbia would have a better reputation if it could balance its books, solicit investment from everyone, send aid (not money of course, but consultants and expert advisers) to poor countries and stay neutral.

So sad, too bad.

@Walter,
What does joining NATO have to do with being a "respectable developed country with a good economy"???
You obviously haven’t noticed, but the cold war is over and the USSR is gone! There is no transatlantic security need, therefore NATO is redundant and irrelevant!
Thanks to the US, NATO has mutated into an oppressive and imperialistic military entity that drags other members into illegal and unnecessary wars that only create death, misery and destruction. Serbia should NEVER join this evil organization!

Walter

And Russia also won't mind Serbia joining NATO, the simple reason is Serbia and Montenegro do not actually border Russia..... it's logic, it doesn't make a difference AT ALL to Russians. Besides, the reason Serbia doesn't want to join NATO has nothing to do with Russia. Serbia doesn't want to join because NATO bombed them and didn't give any compensation. But i personally think it is better to join NATO to make sure you don't get bombed again, or in other words, to get permanent and guaranteed stability in the country and get a better reputation abroad as the country will be considered part of the so called 'western civilised world'. Serbia needs pragmatism to become a respectable developed country with a good economy where people would like to live. Serbia needs to decide its fate and stop being such a confused country.
